I've read quite a few rants about these protests by members of a residential cooperative society when a lady of a minority community was allotted an apartment there. Legal arguments aside, do you know what happens in Housing cooperative societies in Mumbai year after year during Eid Ul Adha, Suhasini? Let me tell you. In BLATANT violation of the proforma BMC circular issued each year stating the designated areas for animal slaughter, animals are purchased and hidden inside apartments and then slaughtered inside the apartment or on the apartment terrace! Every single year there are petitions in the Bombay HC challenging these actions but of course they are infructuous by the time they are heard. Besides, who cares about the religious rights or sensibilities of Hindus? After all we are not a protected class under Art 29. Unlike the Parsis of course, who the Hon'ble Supreme Court has held, CAN bar members of other communities from purchasing or renting in their housing societies. But no outrage there.

The next time you want to enjoy your murgh musallam, have the goat slaughtered on the terrace of your house and see how that feels. Good day.
