Together we stopped the construction of a new jail in 2015 and closed the jail at 850 Bryant. We are now seeing a renewed call to criminalize and incarcerate more San Franciscans, directing more and more resources to policing and jailing.

SF’s trial backlog due to COVID has led to more COVID -- people being kept in jail awaiting trial, incl. hundreds past their legal deadline, has made it difficult to control the latest outbreak of COVID. The result: less healthcare & more isolation for detained community members.

The Drug War is officially back on in San Francisco. For the first time in years, people are being prosecuted for simply using drugs or possessing paraphernalia. It’s hard to fully comprehend the harm this will cause. I’ll try to lay it out below.
