"People feel a sense of collective injustice."
Indonesian journalist Juan Robin explains the driving force behind the country’s anti-government protests, adding that they are likely to continue until the people's demands are met.
The demonstrations were first triggered by reports that lawmakers were receiving monthly housing allowances, @RT_com reports. This was on top of their salaries, and the sum is reported to be almost ten times the minimum wage in the capital, and it comes amid soaring inflation. The protests then escalated after an online motorcycle taxi driver was hit and killed by a police vehicle.
GUYS! Nct!
The police took repressive action by shooting unarmed demonstrators. They also deployed armored vehicles and even snipers to intimidate the demonstrators.
