When members of the royal family (*kerabat diraja*) say things like, "Don't interfere with my state" or "Don't touch my people," it sounds completely disconnected from reality. It makes it seem as though the citizens of that state are being fed and supported by the royal family. In reality, the citizens are the ones working hard, and their votes are driven by the microeconomic factors affecting their daily lives especially when the government of the day fails, becomes corrupt, and abuses its power, much like UMNO did in the past.

To be honest, the whole concept of "Don't interfere with my state government" exists primarily because UMNO was a highly corrupt institution that served royal interests better than any other party could.

This explains why, throughout history, the royals have consistently tried to clean up UMNO's image. They need the roots of feudalism to remain deeply embedded in every Malaysian, ensuring that the people remain too afraid to question authority.
