@JalangoMwenyewe along the Lang’ata–Kibra Link Road is one of the drainage points residents say needs urgent attention. When it floods, water finds its way into homes in Mugumoini Ward.

During the #zKE engagement in Mugumoini Ward, Lang’ata Sub-County, young people also encouraged each other on the importance of proper waste disposal to reduce flooding and other environmental hazards.

Wasee mtaani are calling for service delivery.

Young people in Mugumoini Ward, Lang’ata Sub-County, showed up for the Kenya they want, one where basic services actually work.

At Lang’ata Sub-County Hospital, residents raised concerns about the lack of essential drugs. And despite the notice at the gate describing the facility as a 24-hour health centre, residents say hii imekuwa story za jaba, by 8 PM, getting help becomes a struggle.

@ololtuaa At Karariw Primary School in Central Gem Ward, Siaya County, parents report being asked to provide 5 tins of maize, 3 tins of beans, KSh 2,000 per term and KSh 20 every weekend with no receipts for the payments.Learners are sent home when parents are unable to pay.

The Basic Education Act provides for free and compulsory basic education and states that no child should be refused attendance for failure to pay approved charges, while levies must be officially receipted.

Access to IDs is still a challenge for many young people in Makina ward, Kibra Subcounty. While the service charter dictates 21 days for Nairobi residents, many in Kibra have to wait for months with several visits to the centres.

A dialogue is only complete when duty bearers are in the room to listen, respond and commit to action.
In Makina Ward, Kibra sub county young people engaged the Assistant Chief of Makina, Chief of Makina & Nyayo Highrise, Ward Administrator of Laini Saba and Head of the Kibra Sub-County Peace Committee on key concerns. They made promises on;

1. Fire station set up plans are underway.
2. Follow-up on the delayed ID case.
3. Clarification on Kazi Mtaani recruitment.
4. Construction permits emphasized to improve building safety.

Wasee wakibonga, leaders wanafaa kuskiza and action must follow.

Siasa Place joined fellow citizens at the Uwazi Festival in Nakuru for Rada kwa Debe — a space for candid conversations on leadership, governance and the issues that matter to Kenyans.
