Why is Chennai excluded from the race, especially when IIT Madras is India’s largest deep tech incubator and the IIT Madras Research Park is India’s first university based research park?
In how many cities in India do deep tech startups get access from day one to capital, offices, plug and play seats, IIT labs, faculty, research scholars, and corporate R&D centres?
Sector specific incubators also provide domain specific support.
Chennai is where IIT Madras faculty become co-founders of deep tech startups and have skin in the game.
It is not easy to replicate the integrated infrastructure and ecosystem Chennai has developed for deep tech startups.
Unlike other states, Tamil Nadu has deep tech ecosystem spread across in various cities. In addition to Chennai, you also see them in Coimbatore, Tuticorin and even small tier 4 cities like Karur.
When it comes to deep tech, Moneycontrol should start focusing on Chennai too, in addition to Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Chennai is less glamorous than Bengaluru and Hyderabad but equal in capabilities.
North Indian politicians should learn from Tamil Nadu leaders. This is what positive politics looks like.
I honestly love Tamil Nadu people, politics, politicians, and politics. I wanted to share a very interesting story about my meeting with a Tamil Nadu minister.
Last year, I visited Chennai. I shared my experience. The media picked it up. The Tamil Nadu government noticed it. Later, Tamil Nadu Commerce Minister @TRBRajaa invited me and I spent some time with him.
One thing he said during the meeting really stayed with me. There were investors, founders, and bureaucrats in the room.
He said openly: “We’ll come back to power next year. But even if we don’t, governments may change, but Tamil Nadu’s policies do not. Tamil Nadu’s policies always remain the same.”
He was basically giving investors confidence that they can invest freely without worrying about political change affecting long-term policy.
In most parts of India, politics changes, policies change, direction changes, narratives change.
But the message here was different: The state is bigger than the party.
And today, seeing former CM @mkstalin warmly meeting and welcoming the new CM @actorvijay after losing power reminded me of that exact moment again.
Honestly, I rarely see this kind of political transition in North India. Politics there often feels deeply personality driven. In Tamil Nadu, at least from what I observed, the system itself feels more stable than individual leaders.
Maybe that’s one of the reasons why Tamil Nadu consistently attracts long term investment, manufacturing and global confidence.
Policy stability is underrated. Mature politics compounds quietly over decades.
Vijay won the election. Stalin won hearts. Tamil Nadu won overall.

Three years ago, I was at the Lemon Tree Bengaluru for the Volleyball League. And every morning I would finish breakfast & pop out to reception to pick up a copy of the TOI and the Economic Times. After watching me the first two days, this charming lady on duty would see me and immediately pick them out to give me.
One day, I just wanted the TOI, as the crossword then did not appear in the Sunday ET, and when she came with both, I told her I didn't need the ET.
She refused to understand, & didn't want to take back the other paper. And then I realized that like my darling son Neel and all in the autism spectrum, she struggled when a set routine was disrupted.
I apologized immediately, took the ET as well & was rewarded with a smile that just blew me away.
Thank you Lemon Tree Hotels for making a workplace for all. You have a supporter & customer for life

Yet another key partnership to grow Tamil Nadu’s #GCC ecosystem !
Pinnacle Group, one of the world’s largest and most respected workforce solutions and managed services providers, has signed a Facilitation MoU with @Guidance_TN, and had earlier set up their second global headquarters here in Chennai !
Greatly appreciate their Founder and CEO, Ms. Nina Vaca, talk about building trust for a long lasting partnership, and readily wearing the #BullishOnN pin !
Pinnacle Group supports Fortune 500 companies, large public sector enterprises and medium sized companies in building and scaling Global Capability Centres.
Their decision to establish their #AsiaPacific Headquarters in #Chennai marks their first major presence outside the US and reflects their Trust on TN's capabilities and a long-term strategic commitment to Tamil Nadu ✨
This MoU creates a structured framework to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s GCC ecosystem. Guidance will provide facilitation and regulatory coordination. Pinnacle Group will actively support global enterprises looking to set up and scale GCCs in the state, across talent strategy, managed services, delivery models and operational scale.

Discovered a value-added agri brand called
‘Goodness farms’ on Instagram, and I must say, the product quality is outstanding. Their noodles, granola, and pasta are top-notch 👌
How everything started for the brand that has ruled Tamil kitchens for decades:
The Sakthi Masala founder says the inflection point was the first ad. Milka B’s owner convinced them to do it. And Manorama agreeing to front it changed everything. Classic Tamil Nadu brand-building lore.

A few points about Carney's outstanding speech at Davos. What he said about the middle path is what the Indians have been practising for decades. When India did it, driven by its national interests, we were attacked as fence sitters who were shy of taking positions. Now Carney realises that the third way is not actually fence sitting, it is standing on one's ground.
Two, what Carney said about the rules-based order is something we have been saying in the East for quite some time. The rules of the rules-based order were framed by the West and they followed the order as long as they thought it favoured them. The rules were not fair. Partnership and cooperation were used as euphemisms for subordination. Carney's Canada or Frederiksen's Denmark happily supported America's illegal wars in the South until now. Just look ag Carney's own response on Jan 3 when Venezuela was bombed and its president abducted. It took a direct threat from Washington to take over the whole of Canada for the Canadian Prime Minister to realise that the rules-based order was a lie.
Third, what Prime Minister Carney did at Davos was the proclamation of the death of the post-war order. It died a long time ago. But the West never accepted it because they thought they could keep the alliance together by, like what Macron said, doing "great things" on countries like Iran or Syria. But the cracks are so wide now that even the Canadians, dependent on the US up to their eyeballs, can't ignore them any more.

Here are the salaries which Govt of India will pay to the team that will manage our ₹1 Lakh crore RDI Fund:
For context: The Govt of India had allocated ₹10,000 crore in 2016 for the Startup Fund of Fund Scheme (FFS) which was managed by SIDBI Ventures. FFS invests in VC funds which in turn invest in startups.
In 2025, GOI came back with a clear intent to invest in DeepTech in the country by allocating ₹1 Lakh crore to the RDI Fund - which will invest in DeepTech VC funds and provide alternative funding for startups.
So, here’s my question: What is your first reaction to the numbers highlighted in yellow?
Mine is below ⤵️
