In 2019, Evan Nathan Smith tragically died in hospital following a sickle cell crisis. He was just 21.

Why are we still witnessing deaths due to sickle cell crises, and why is there insufficient emphasis on the critical role of nursing and medical care?

We must classify deaths resulting from inadequate care of Sickle Cell disease as a "never event." There is an urgent need for improved acute assessment and management of patients with sickle cell disease within our hospital trusts. Thank you for raising this important issue, @LolaOni3, @SickleCellUK.

What initiatives are we implementing to guarantee that sickle cell disease is effectively integrated into our undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, @nmcnews? @CNOWales, @Duncan_CNO, we must address the mismanagement of patient access to care that leads to inadequate healthcare access and actively work to bridge these gaps in knowledge. It's time to prioritise care excellence for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic groups too, instead of placing them on the periphery. @CNOBME_SAG, @NHS_RHO.
