Congratulations to Dr Kathryn Hussey who just passed her viva!!! @KathrynAHussey. All PhDs have challenges but Kathryn had a LOT of covid shaped ones. She showed so much resilience and perseverance. I could not be more proud of her and the work she produced! @sotonbiosci
Ever wondered what would happen when putting two transmissible cancers in a petri dish? 😈🥊🧫 Check out our new paper on the in vitro competition of two transmissible cancers in Tasmanian devils! https://t.co/w4jRfGDnt8
It was fantastic to watch these researchers work so well together! Also, thank you to wonderful co-authors for thinking up this project , getting funding and driving things forward! @BeataUjvari, Frederic Thomas, Rodrigo Hamede, @AMDujon, Benjamin Roche
Very proud of @AnneLise_Gerard and @ROwen_93 for this piece of work, investigating competition between two transmissible cancers in the Tasmanian devil - Evolutionary Applications https://t.co/Q50Rc1qfGJ 1/5
It turns out the younger cancer grows faster (at least in a dish) and has the potential to outcompete the older cancer. This may not be great news for the devil, a case of better the devil you know.
Check out this fantastic training program for genetic management of threatened species. Driven and led by the indefatigable @HoggCarolyn - congratulations Carolyn - I’m so proud of what you have achieved! @BioplatformsAus @ARC_CIPPS https://t.co/V72oTCndxP

We got a AEA Seed grant!! Very excited to be testing a novel anti-tick vaccine in different cattle breeds. This is a new adventure for me and I’m lucky to have super colleagues, industry partners and mentors!! @QAAFI @AlaLTUQ @UniQuestUQ
Twenty-four research projects have been awarded funding under Tranche Two of the AEA Seed Grants!
These grants will help leading entrepreneurial researchers translate world-class research into new industries, services and jobs of tomorrow.

Scientists have just mapped the entire genetic jigsaw of the brushtail possum - something that’ll help control the ubiquitous marsupial here, while conserving it across the ditch https://t.co/rxRJAF7NlR
Watch this clip to see how genomics can help us respond to invasive species AND conserve our natives. Beautifully explained by @DonnaBond_NZ and colleagues :)
Brushtail possums are the native mammal most likely to be in human contact in Australia and Aotearoa/NZ - protected in native Oz, but a pest in NZ. We sequenced their genes and found many surprises - read https://t.co/WIHizsJ5Dn or watch https://t.co/OvYEfA22i3 for more.....
