Late pm @NEBBS11 survey at Tynemouth (Tyne and Wear): low tide, 11 degrees. Six beached & intact fulmar corpses were collected, with remains of another seen. This was part of an unhappy fulmar wreck along our NE England coastline (bird flu has been identified).
This evening HPAI (bird flu) strain H5N5 has been confirmed from 5 of our fulmars collected at Druridge Bay (25 Sept) and from a further 3 collected at Seaton Sluice (28 Sept). A sad picture is emerging. This is the likely cause for the whole incident. So many fulmars affected.
#CoimbraSeabirds is all wrapped up - a huge thanks to the organisers & @TheSeabirdGroup for inviting me to speak about toileting and menstruation during fieldwork. I'm so grateful to all those who engaged so positively during & after the talk! Thanks Paul W for pictures
