Within the framework of the international conference entitled “Amritsar June 1984: Transnational Repression as an Extension of Genocide,” representatives of Sikh and Dalit communities and diaspora organizations from the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Netherlands, and Germany paid a visit to the Parliament of Azerbaijan.
The guests provided information on the threats faced by ethnic and religious minorities, including discrimination, human rights violations, and instances of transnational repression by the Indian government. The parties also exchanged views on how to bring the voices of Sikh and Dalit communities to the international arena.

The Baku Initiative Group @bakuinitiative organised the third major event with the Sikh Federation International @SikhFedIntl in less than five months.
Yesterday Sikh representatives from across the globe met with Members of Parliament in the Azerbaijan Parliament and discussed:
- the 1984 Sikh Genocide and campaign for a Sikh homeland, Khalistan;
- transnational repression by the Indian government targeting Sikh activists in the Diaspora;
- the historic relationship between Sikhs and Azerbaijan; and
- the importance of preserving this shared heritage.
Sikh delegates then participated in a commemorative event at the historic Ateshgah, UNESCO World Heritage Site with longstanding historical connections to the Sikh community.
Today Sikh delegates participated in an international academic conference entitled “Amritsar: June 1984 - Transnational Repression as a Continuation of Genocide” hosted at Baku State University. @BakDovl
A major outcome of the visit was the formalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding between Sikh Federation International and the Baku Initiative Group.
The Indian government is understood to be deeply concerned with the work of Sikh Federation International and recent developments as governments and NGOs across the globe are interested to learn why the Indian government feels so threatened by the Sikh independence movement, the revolutionary teachings of the Sikh Gurus and the vision of a Sikh homeland, Khalistan making Halemi Raj (compassionate rule) a reality.

As Prime Minister Mark Carney heads to India this week for trade talks, police have warned a Canadian Sikh leader about a 'credible threat' to his life. https://t.co/ITzqeQcg5P
As Carney heads to India for trade talks, a Canadian Sikh leader has been warned of a “credible threat” to his life.
Moninder Singh, head of the Sikh Federation, says Vancouver Police delivered the warning Sunday, citing intel from a confidential informant. His wife and children were also deemed at risk, Global News is reporting.
Canadian security agencies and law enforcement have both shared that India is targeting Sikh Canadians as part of a transnational repression and state sponsored terrorism campaign, including mobilizing a known terrorist entity, the Bishnoi Gang, to conduct arsons, homicides, and extortions targeting Canadians.
The Carney government has moved ahead with normalizing ties without securing any public accountability from India.

Below is a short clip from an interview given by @gsjosan@UKLabour MP for Smethwick to @dailyajitnews on Sunday 30 November at @GNGSmethwick where he himself brings up the case of Jagtar Singh Johal.
This clip has just been played on @akaalchannel this evening and he has been asked to publicly apologise and explain why he has misled the public with his lies.
To deflect attention away from actions not taken by @Keir_Starmer@DavidLammy@YvetteCooperMP in calling for the release and return of Jagtar Singh Johal since July 2024 he stated the previous @government had not engaged with @GSJohal85 & @MartinJDocherty
This was a blatant lie for which @gsjosan should immediately apologise to the public, Jagtar Singh Johal’s family, @MartinJDocherty@David_Cameron@JamesCleverly@trussliz@Jeremy_Hunt
The Labour leadership will also want to ensure their MP and NEC member publicly apologises for lying ASAP and consider if disciplinary action is appropriate. @Conservatives and @theSNP politicians have been made aware of what amounts to defamation and will no doubt be considering what action is necessary.
If anyone wants evidence of @gsjosan’s lies they will want to note the following substantiated facts:
David Cameron met Gurpreet Singh Johal and Martin Docherty-Hughes as Foreign Secretary on 12 February 2024.

There should be political consequences if an MP lies in a media interview.
A complaint to the parliamentary standards body is possible and potential legal action, as parliamentary privilege generally does not protect statements made outside the House of Commons.
The Code of Conduct for Members of Parliament incorporates the Nolan Principles of Public Life, which state that "Holders of public office should be truthful".
