Today, we pause to honor the victims of the Holocaust and reflect on the immense suffering endured by millions, with special remembrance of Polish victims who are often overlooked in the broader narrative.

Auschwitz-Birkenau, located in German occupied Poland it became the center of this atrocity because of convenience and Poland since was the haven for Europe’s largest Jewish population.

Initially designed for Polish prisoners prisoners, it later symbolized the German regime’s systematic extermination of Jewish people.

Yet, Poles suffered uniquely under the occupation, targeted as Germany’s first victims.

For nearly three years, Poles were killed at a ratio of 10 to 1 compared to Jews, subjected to forced labor, mass executions, and efforts to erase their culture.

In Auschwitz alone, tens of thousands of Poles, intellectuals, patriots, priests, and ordinary civilians were murdered.

This grim history underscores the resilience of the Polish people.

The Polish underground, civilians, and government-in-exile risked everything to resist German oppression and aid their Jewish neighbors, something that is also often overlooked or even revised.

On this solemn day, let us honor their sacrifice and bravery.

Let us keep alive the truth and memory of those who perished.
