Something special about thrillers and horror is that they’re as purely experiential as it gets. What scares someone is as inalienable as what makes them laugh. All of these put a bad pit in my stomach.
the shot in The Witch where the father dies and it cuts to a wide angle of the giant woodpile against the house is one of the greatest reveals i’ve ever seen in a movie
Fun fact, they’ve done studies by playing different cat’s chirps and meows to pet owners and they can often identify their cat’s cry, and identify what the cries mean!!!
Cats and their owners develop their own little language. Adult feral cats don’t meow. They do it for us.
trick for this to work as a franchise is just finding new ways for new characters to end up in the backrooms and they respond differently and give tiny crumbs of added lore each time. Hellraiser approach as opposed to the lore maximalism of like the Saw franchise.
i haven't seen anyone talk about the BACKROOMS lamp guy. i love him. i love that little guy. first time he does his thing, terrifying. second time he does his thing--absolutely hilarious
