@nigeext@abritishparent@LauraTrottMP@IGMansfield@afneil@CamillaTominey There are always crumbs from the rich man's table.
I think it's a crying shame that energetic people like you from a poor background can't find a good place in a state school for your kids. I know there are problems with the state sector too. We need a complete rethink.
@nigeext@abritishparent@LauraTrottMP@IGMansfield@afneil@CamillaTominey If it was their aim it was v stupid bcz on the whole the day clientele is harmless middle-class people. It's the patrons of elite boarding who are the bastions of anti-Labour (I know, I come from that ruthless lot). A tax on them would be widely popular. Tough 4 u Nige.
@nigeext@abritishparent@LauraTrottMP@IGMansfield@afneil@CamillaTominey I was offering advice to help the smaller private *day* schools. Your lot can clearly look after themselves.
In my now long experience, politics is more about cock-up than conspiracy - except on X.
It's "villains of the peace".
@Channel4News Political in what sense. Social stereotypes exist in all societies. They will continue to do so until they are more equal and integrated.
@verityrf@AaronBastani They certainly read the situation wrong with hindsight.
We don't know the full context of this decision. I will leave proof to the findings of the IOPC.
@vickygrayson_@drneiljohnson@abritishparent@EducationNotTax That's not my position. Of course, a few who go to boarding school aren't wealthy (scholarships, subsidy from big cos. & govt. depts.) but they are a minority. The economics wouldn't work otherwise.
@vickygrayson_@abritishparent@EducationNotTax The state sector is imperfect & could be improved. An education system based on fee-paying can never be integrated because the very rich will always have more resources. Exclusive boarding schools demonstrate this. See Gathorne-Hardy.
@OBEhizele We should remember that the USA is a settler state with a history of domestic slavery. The British involvement is there, but our state evolution is very different.
@vickygrayson_@drneiljohnson@abritishparent@EducationNotTax I've been studying boarding schools for 20+ years. You're free to ignore my opinion.
The influential boarding schools are full of rich families. They send their kids to reproduce their wealth (I went to one). They are not popular among the general populace. Tough fact.
@vickygrayson_@abritishparent@EducationNotTax Victoria, you're moving goal posts.
People point at Eton etc because they see the visible effects of privilege, Cameron, Johnson et al - they aren't interested in developmental psychology. You won't win this argument - except possibly on X.
