A little late but I wrote this piece about how government algorithms now quietly impact many consequential decisions in government

@PsychRabble
@PsychRabble Glad to hear you are doing personally well! On a personal level so am I it's just a rather interesting vibe from working in the government and living in DC.
@PsychRabble How are you? It's probably interesting in a sad way to see that you were right about how wokeness sapped universities political support and now we are in the current situation
@PsychRabble Working for the government and a sensitive part at that so accordingly I have been extra careful with my opinions. I'm doing some really cool AI stuff which has been amazing how fast the field has grown.
@PsychRabble Their effects really come down to their frequency and how sensitive you are and ironically micro aggression workshops often make people more sensitive
@PsychRabble I think it's certainly true that micro aggression research is very reliant on self reports and the causation vs correlation piece is always a classic. My personal not scientifically backed opinion is that of course faux pas racially charged comments exist. But
@JoshRKlein@megbasham Trump is naturally pro choice and always has been. He knows he owns conservative voters now and that means he can go to the left on abortion even if it's the only cited reason many Christian voters voted for him.
@JoshRKlein@megbasham Voters don't dislike project 2025 simply because it sounds scary. Even if you take for granted that the media puts the most negative spin on it conservatives have not put in the work to make a lot of these policies popular.
@JoshRKlein@megbasham Outlawing pornography
Defunding the department of education
Using the Comstock act to prevent abortion pills from being mailed
Obviously there's plenty of non-controversial and popular policy in there as well but Trump's instinct to distance himself is correct
@Stmckay04@SwannMarcus89 Maybe they will but I think the R ticket will realize that it's not a particularly compelling attack line not to mention Walz is not at the top of the ticket
@Stmckay04@SwannMarcus89 One of the major downsides of the two party system is that it's always a contest between two people. The standards for politicians are pretty rock bottom these days from a cold political calculus this issue probably can be safely ignored given the opposing tocket
@Stmckay04@SwannMarcus89 I'm just saying off Twitter people really don't care about this stuff especially civilians who couldn't tell you what the difference between a MSG a CSM or a SGM is if their lives depended on it
@ShirAbowtdat@SwannMarcus89 Well I don't care and the majority of my colleagues don't really care (probably because they don't even think about VP noms) either so maybe it's because all the service members you know are die hard partisans
@Stmckay04@SwannMarcus89 It's real debatable if he's using his rank incorrectly. Former CSM is correct and retired CSM is not but most civilians don't have a clue what a CSM is so ya not really going to draw gasps.
@wil_da_beast630 Honestly this story is so convoluted it's not going to break through. Civilians are so unfamiliar with the military and the media absolutely mangles all the details. Not to mention he's the VP not even the top of the ticket
Obviously the closer to the X you are the more important you are to the military and the cooler/more respect in the military you get but I'm not sure that translates well to being a political credential.
The tendency for everyone to break down politician's service records in detail is annoying . The admirable thing about serving is letting your country decide to use you in whatever way it sees fit whether its doing cool dangerous things, lame safe things or dangerous lame things.
Wait, you're talking about service records?
Ha, okay, let me take y'all on a journey of Tom Cotton's stolen valor since this performative coward feels the need to attack great patriots like Tim Walz.
Buckle up. Tom Cotton lied about an Army Ranger.
(long thread)
@ProfGoat He's also a VP pick. The attack on Vance is actually more of an attack on Trump as an enabler of far right social policy the stolen valor claim doesn't fit a coherent attack on Harris
This is super inside baseball but military people do tend to be very touchy about their symbols. I really doubt though it's going to make much of an impact as a criticism to the general public most of whom barely know the difference between enlisted and officers.
Hey @Tim_Walz, this you? Do you often wear our crest even though you were only National Guard with zero deployments, never went through SFAS or the Q course, and by all accounts never even worked with Special Forces?
Stolen valor much?
