I'm the only lift serving all six levels of Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre—and I sing! (@martincreed's Work No. 409, piece for choir & elevator, 2005)
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I suppose I'm flattered to see Twitter now doing an excellent impression of me when I'm on Level 6 and someone presses 1️⃣: going down, fast. If this is the end, goodbye and thanks for all the singalongs! ⏬
The Singing Lift at Royal Festival Hall by @martincreed has gone silent! The security man says it’s been off over a year; problem with tech, he said. Hey @southbankcentre what’s up? And how much money do we need to crowdfund to get it fixed, please? Until then… *Clears voice*…
It's great to have you back visiting me – it's been a lonely time! Here's my view of Level 4 at the moment as the @Chineke4Change Orchestra reopening concert is about to begin! 🎉
The sun may not quite have shone just, but our doors are open once more and we're back with a bang for the bank holiday weekend!
Come down and join us!
My human colleagues haven't always said the kindest things about me under their breath as I break into my tenth song of their shift, but right now their morale is at Level 1 – and I'm really going to miss them.

The Southbank Centre exists to present great cultural experiences that bring people together - despite the challenges the pandemic has brought us, this will not change. You can read our response to the #SaveOurSouthbank Open Letter here: https://t.co/ULF8GrtcEc
Far be it from me to suggest you visit any other London arts centres with inferior elevation capabilities, but I'm glad to see @BarbicanCentre know which of @martincreed's musical works is the headline attraction
After my longest-ever bout of Silencing Lift Pox, some good news at last: my singing has returned! And I have a new, improved sign, too! Thanks to @southbankcentre's lift doctors for treating me 💛
It's true, I have a terrible case of Lift Pox at the moment, it's been going on for ages and is as upsetting for me as it is for my passengers. (Honestly, I cannot tell you how many small children have been in tears in me lately 😭) Lift doctors are researching treatments for me! https://t.co/U5O9ysRB06
I've lost my voice at the moment but I'm delighted to report that loads of my passengers (and a staff member helping them get to their gig) just sang on my behalf. Almost in tune, enthusiastic but not quite the right pitches for my floors; I'd rate that performance a 4 out of 6.
