Odisha | Sarthak Mohapatra (22), a merchant navy official working as a 'Deck Cadet', is reported missing at sea while on duty aboard the vessel 'EA Jersey' under Anglo-Eastern Ship Management Pvt Lt, since 3rd February. His family has written to Odisha CM seeking urgent intervention from the Centre and the state government. A missing persons report was filed at Bhubaneswar's Sahidnagar police station on 5th February.

Mysterious Disappearance of Merchant Navy Cadet Sarthak Mahapatra in the Mid-Ocean

In a deeply concerning incident, 23-year-old Sarthak Mahapatra, a deck cadet from Odisha's Bhadrak district, has mysteriously gone missing from the merchant vessel EA Jersey managed by Anglo-Eastern Ship Management while at sea.

Sarthak joined the ship as a cadet in July 2025. He went missing under mysterious circumstances on February 3, 2026, while the vessel was en route from Mauritius to Singapore

Last Known Communications
Sarthak spoke to his mother for the last time around 9 PM (the previous night) on a call.

He also conversed with other family members and friends late into the night.

Onboard duty/reporting time is typically from 4 AM to 8 AM.
However, for some reason, Sarthak reportedly left his mid-duty (around 6 AM) and returned to his cabin.

At around 6:15 AM on February 3, he was last seen entering his cabin.

The company informed the family that Sarthak is missing and a search operation is underway in the sea (coordinated with relevant authorities like MRCC Mauritius).

No clear information has been provided to the family on what exactly happened to their son or how he went missing.
No CCTV footage or other evidence has been shared with the family.

The company has only stated that he is "missing" and a search is in progress.
