10 years ago, between facing death or conversion, the people of Kocho chose death.
The Mukhtar, Sheikh Ahmed Jasso, told the IS militants that they were born Yazidis, and they will die as Yazidis.

It was tonight, 10 years ago, when life changed for all Yazidis, including myself. I remember receiving the first calls from family members and relatives who were in a state of shock, wondering what to do: resist, flee, & if so where to flee to. Every second during the following two weeks was crucial for many in Iraq, determining whether they would survive or not. For us, the Yazidis in the diaspora, we knew we had to do everything we could to get the world to act. We went to DC on August 7th and stayed there for about 22 days. That is where our story of advocacy started, including putting together the first building blocks of Yazda which became central to Yazidi advocacy.
Ten years ago, ISIS sought to destroy the Yezidi community through genocide. We responded with love and resilience, keeping our culture alive every day. Today, FYF honors #Yezidi strength, as we rebuild and thrive. Together, we move forward with hope and dignity. #YezidiGenocide

Yazidis get humiliated once again at the ministry of migration and displaced office. The ministry threatened IDPs if they don’t register for return by July 31, their support package will be reduced from ~2600USD to 1000USD. They are also threatening to close schools and other forms of support.
From tents to tents..
Despite their strong will to return, Yazidi families face hurdles due to lack of support.
In the past months, hundreds of Yazidis left camps for #Sinjar, but with their homes in ruins, they must set up tents again
