It’s beginning to look, smell & taste a lot like Christmas 🎄 Reception enjoyed a week of Christmas themed sensory play. They had flour with mixed spices to make sweet cinnamon flavoured playdough & then they got even more busy with baking some Christmas gingerbread cookies.#eyfs

How can we help children with early understanding of numbers?

Learning to count is difficult. Whilst babies and young children have an innate sense of quantity, the ability to think about exact quantities depends on learning a system of number.

Reception are creating their own fireworks this week in the outdoor classroom. They have been changing the movement of their paint brushes to create different firework splashes. #EYFS

This week in Nursery, we continued looking at our feelings through our book, 'The Colour Monster'. We went through all the different feelings including happy, sad, angry, scared and love.

This week, Reception have been learning to count down from 10. During maths lessons and free flow, they have been taking part in activities that require a countdown. They have had lots of fun with rocket launches, racing tracks, firework/confetti displays & volcanic eruptions!

This week, Nursery continued to settle into our classroom. We played with playdough, painted and sang some songs. We even made some new friends. We are so excited to learn with our new class!

This week, Reception have continued to familiarise themselves with the Zones of Regulation colours. They have been thinking about how they are feeling and learning to talk to others about it. Talking is very therapeutic and helps us to remove some of our worries!

The EYFS outdoor classroom has been very exciting this week with lots of water and messy play. Reception have been role playing buying & selling fruit at a fruit market, making fruit prints & making friendship potions. We have had a lot of fun! #EYFS

Y1 began their Goldilocks unit in English this week. They returned to class after playtime to find the class was a huge mess! They hunted around the classroom looking for clues to find out who the perpetrator was. They found some excellent clues and found out it was GOLDILOCKS!

I’d like to talk about my Dad.

He came to England from India at age 17.

He had a brutal childhood- he’s refused to talk us kids about it but part of his childhood involved living on the streets as a child in India

Coming to England saved his life. Literally.

He has worked - shop keeper, then taxi driver & has contributed to tax his whole life here. He refused to charge people for his taxi service when they visited hospitals, students who felt unsafe walking at night etc. He worked 7 days a week, and we lived month to month.

My Mum, at the age of 64, still works full
time as an insurance broker & has also paid tax her entire working life.

My Dad retired at the age of 70 during the pandemic as he was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully he’s currently in remission 🙏

As soon as he was given the “all clear” he could finally pursue his dream - to feed those in need.

At the age of 70 he asked my Mum to teach him how to cook.

Every Tuesday he buys food to feed about 100/200 homeless people a week. He wakes up at 3am every Wednesday to cook the food, package & distribute it with a team of volunteers who also provide them warm clothing, cut their hair etc with nothing but love.

The volunteers are from all backgrounds, all colours, all ethnicities as are the people they serve.

He is the kindest, most compassionate person I know. To have people judge him based on the colour of his skin breaks my heart beyond measure.

Reception had a wonderful celebration to mark the end of their Forest School journey. They reflected on all of the amazing skills that they have learnt. Reception are looking forward to moving to Year 1 and beginning their Explorers journey.
