(UP Gramin Bank Officers Association)

[Aazad Banker @aazadbanker]

#saveidbiemployees

Prof. Panagariya, with all humility, your own article answers your conclusion.

You say the healthy books make this the right time to sell. But by your own numbers, NPA fell from 21.25% to 2.32% and CRAR rose to 26.65% while LIC and the Government owned the bank. The healthy books are proof that public ownership worked.

You say PSBs that "regularly drain government finances" should be sold. IDBI made a record ₹9,513 crore profit. By your own test, it does not qualify.

You say GoI and LIC will share in benefits "almost certain to accrue". If they are almost certain, why sell 60.72% of them? And ₹52,879 crore of proceeds against about ₹53,800 crore of public money put in, by your own figures. Where is the fiscal gain?
You cite a study of 14 Vajpayee-era privatisations. None was a bank. If employees will truly be better off, why not give them statutory protection in writing?

And your own last paragraph lists banking as a strategic sector, with your caveat "provided national security or strategic concerns are not at stake". Sir, who examined that?
In December 2003 Parliament was assured majority ownership. A promise in Parliament deserves to be kept.

Would you like to counter? I can learn a lot.

How can a government be so insensitive and indifferent? Doctors have been sitting on a hunger strike for the last four days, yet not a single government representative has come forward to meet them.

Is this how a government treats the very doctors who serve its people?

No such discussions took place, then any claim suggesting that employee associations were consulted is misleading and must be corrected immediately.

Employees are not mere spectators in a decision that directly affects their future. They are the backbone of IDBI Bank and deserve to be heard before any decision is taken that could affect their jobs, service conditions, career prospects and social security.

Privatisation is not merely a financial transaction. It raises serious concerns about employment security, reservation policies, opportunities for persons with disabilities, financial inclusion and the future of public banking.

"Now, what I want is, Facts... Facts alone are wanted in life."

IDBI Bank is more than just a financial institution. It represents the hard work of its employees, the trust of its customers, and opportunities for future generations.

Privatisation raises important concerns about employees’ job security, future recruitment, reservation opportunities, and the role of public sector banking in serving ordinary citizens.
