@mindlingg@kutmuziekmp3 This is addressed in the book. Grace explicitly thinks about what pronouns he should use for Rocky and acknowledges that human gender roles likely don’t apply to alien society or biology. He eventually settles on “he” because he himself is a man
@kutmuziekmp3@mindlingg This is a big reach. Most people would absolutely consider it demeaning to be called “it”, and it makes sense for Grace to default to more standard pronouns.
@AuthStirnerite capable of effectively protecting people from discrimination, and thus has an obligation to do so. It’s absurd to think that the state has some kind of duty to bring about revolution, when revolution should really be in spite of the state!
@AuthStirnerite Also, you’re wrong to think that we should abandon the facts of the world in search of idealism. The state exists, whether you like it or not. And until the working class is organised enough to seize power (which will take a long, long time), the state is the only organisation
@AuthStirnerite Do you really think that if New York City dropped all its anti-discrimination initiatives tomorrow, and left everyone to organise into ethno-militias focused on protecting their own, that the city would be a better place?
@AuthStirnerite We don’t live in a communist world. Sure, the working class should organise itself, but until such a time that the state isn’t in power anymore, it makes no sense to advocate for the state to neglect its duties since there’s nothing to replace them.
@hazmo89@kpdemon6@chuuhiros@aimeemarie1988 ??? Why does that matter? Are you saying it’s bd for people to document the genocide if it doesn’t result in the complete collapse of the Israeli government?
@Xeens@paranmaung Were the 36 children Hamas killed combatants? Just because Israel caused Oct 7h doesn’t mean Hamas has a free pass to kill whoever it wants
@isitstoney@TeeVeeInspector You’re just talking past me here. Even if this is your goal, it’s so obviously good for Israelis speak out and document the genocide. Also, what about the millions of people born in Israel? How do you deport them “back” to a place they aren’t from?
@isitstoney@TeeVeeInspector Israeli society is the way it is because the government has moulded them through a lifetime of indoctrination. Some of them are capable of seeing through this. If you disagree with that, then what exactly is your solution? Expel all Israelis from the place they were born?
@isitstoney@TeeVeeInspector They really weren’t. So much of the world was completely fine with the early days of the genocide. Now, thanks in part to the efforts of journalists across the world, the tide has turned against the Israeli government. Also, of course there are good Israelis? They’re people
