đš Jurgen Klopp on whether he misses his rivalry with Pep Guardiola after taking charge of Germany:
âI had my first proper sessions with Germany and afterwards I was sitting there thinking, âOkay⊠this is different.â
Then somebody asked me if there was anything I missed about club football.
Unfortunately, I thought of Pep. [laughs]
I spent years trying to get away from this man. You win 10 games, you look at the table and City have won 11. You get 97 points and somehow youâre 2nd. Before playing them you spend 3 days thinking about what Pep might change, then the game starts and heâs put a midfielder at left back for some reason.
It was exhausting.
But I miss it.
Because we believed in football differently. Pep wanted control. I wanted the game to become something nobody could control. He wanted 25 passes before hurting you. Sometimes I wanted three.
Neither of us changed for the other one. We just kept trying to prove our football could beat the otherâs.
And I think thatâs why those Liverpool-City games felt different. It wasnât only two great teams. It was two completely different answers to the same question.
Now Iâm with Germany and maybe one day Pep takes a national team.
đŁïž Reporter: âYou actually want that?â
đŁïž Klopp: âOf course.
Give him Spain. Give him Brazil. Give him whoever he wants.
Then maybe we meet in a World Cup semi-final and spend another week pretending weâre enjoying ourselves. [laughs]
I think football deserves one more.
Pep once said heâd sleep better when I left Liverpool.
Heâs had enough sleep now.â
Very apparent.
The victory was not so much a tactical win. More so a mentality one. Especially against the Champions, who will roll you over if you don't compete to your maximum.
More on this in a live class tomorrow.

In my âSpecial Arsenal Contentâ bookmark folder and it still gives me goosebumps. We will look back at Mikel being one of the greatest orators of our time in football. The energy transmitted through his words is something else.
đšMyles Lewis-Skelly on his conversation with Thierry Henry that convinced him to stay at Arsenal:
đïž Reporter: âMyles, there was a lot of talk about your future. What happened that made you decide to stay at Arsenal â
đŁïž Myles Lewis-Skelly: âI spoke to Thierry and I told him I was thinking about leaving because I wanted to play more and I wasnât sure what my pathway at Arsenal looked like.
He listened to me and said, âMyles, youâre looking at this the wrong way.â
I asked him what he meant.
He said, âDonât look at the players ahead of you and ask why they are playing. Look at them and ask yourself what you need to do to make the manager unable to leave you out.â
That stayed with me.
Then he told me something Iâll never forget.
âYouâre at Arsenal. Youâre not supposed to be comfortable. Youâre supposed to compete.â
He said, âWhen I was young, I wanted to play every minute too. But you have to understand that becoming a top player isnât just about getting minutes. Itâs about what you do with the minutes you get.â
Then he looked at me and said, âIf you leave because youâre afraid of competition, you might get more football somewhere else, but youâll never know what you could have become here.â
That really hit me.
He told me, âStay. Work. Make Mikel Arteta trust you so much that leaving you on the bench becomes difficult for him.â
That was the conversation.
I went home and thought about it for a long time.
I realised I didnât actually want to leave Arsenal.
I wanted to earn my place.
So I stayed.
Now every training session feels different. Iâm not looking around thinking, âWhy isnât it me?â
Iâm thinking, âWhat do I have to do so next time it is me?â
And now Iâm starting, and Arteta looks at me knowing he has to start me.
Thierry didnât promise me minutes.
He gave me a different way of looking at the competition.
And that changed everything.â
