Where are the medical ethicists writing discourses on whether it’s ethical to force surgeons to perform amputations w/o anesthesia, to force obgyns to perform c-sections w/o pain meds, to force docs to treat infected wounds with vinegar, to perform surgeries by phone light+
The Bolivian MAS government first cut ties with Israel in 2005. The fascist coup in 2019 restored Israeli relations. Now, as the U.S.-backed Tel Aviv regime commits genocide against Palestinian, Bolivia again takes a moral stand by severing ties.
Haroun is my father, and he hasn't received his medications for 23 days. He has been battling cancer for five years, doing his best to resist, but this Israeli aggression has taken a toll on his mental well-being and made it impossible for him to receive treatment.
Tonight Khalil was killed by Israeli bombings in the south of the Gaza Strip. He was an English teacher. peace activist. We spoke together in front of audiences about the situation in Gaza. about the need to find a solution.
In reality I will no longer meet him. Maybe in the sky
“I apologize to my students at the Lebanese University because I was strict in teaching the courses on international law, international humanitarian law, and the United Nations. After the Zionist crimes in Gaza, there is no longer a need to teach these courses …”. Surreal
NEW: @UNHumanRights NY Office Director @CraigMokhiber resigns in protest over timidity of key parts of #UN system on issues pertaining to Palestinian Human Rights. In letter to @volker_turk he says: "This is a text-book case of genocide. The European, ethno-nationalist, settler colonial project in Palestine has entered its final phase, toward the expedited destruction of the last remnants of indigenous Palestinian life in #Palestine."
“war crime” is a toothless, vapid liberal obfuscation of what we are witnessing and palestinians are experiencing. truly an inadequate & ahistorical explanation for colonial international law operates & how its continued legitimacy enables and has paved the way for this moment.
As the shame of talking about how alone, isolated, solitary and friendless ppl feel is dispelled, counter to myths about identity as community, I hope we see more narratives about how the rich imaginary of one's inner life can be plotted, with its own mysterious arcs.
Paid $25 dollars for a 4-page article describing a study about current treatments for a rare form of cancer my father has, and the researchers likely got nothing for it.
A reminder that Elsevier made $10.5 BILLION in 2022 from selling your academic journals and articles behind paywalls, and make more profit than Amazon, Google, and Apple every year…
And paid the academics who wrote the articles $0
And paid the reviewers of the articles $0
My father's friend just called him for advice on his 80-year old sister who has invasive cervical cancer that my father says is most likely linked to HPV. This is a virus that can lay dormant for a very long time, yet no throat and no consensus on anal screenings for it yet.
Having an oncologist in the family who has talked about the clinical link between HPV and head/neck/anal cancers for YEARS, the organized evasion by the med community (oh, it'll clear itself!) about long-term impacts, coupled with the lack of available screenings is shocking.
My primary care recommended pap smears every 3 years even though I've had HPV, so I've had to lie and say I had unprotected sex (I'm SO celibate) to get my yearly pap. The project of misinformation is unbelievable.
If the AAPI actors and writers that position themselves as "AAPI representation" aren't actively anti-racist and pro-Black then I'd rather we just not appear on screen at all actually
