@anuruddha_lka I'm afraid you're still missing the point. No one disputes the dead person's actions. No one that I can see is commemorating those actions. Point is that the living is permitted to commemorate the dead without judgement. Not doing so is the restart the same cycle from 1956.

He was part of the state, knew about the presence of the thugs in Jaffna, did nothing to prevent a national asset being burnt, and didn’t raise a finger to protest after what happened. Hence, he is responsible too.

@t30m2 Extending this logic, there is no reason for us to claim the Hindu temples that are being destroyed by the state now as cultural symbols of Tamils alone. There is no need for our resistance to get trapped in the divisive nationalistic logic of the state. Just sing kumbaya.

@t30m2 It is not the intension to argue whether M.A. Nuhman calls himself a Tamil or Muslim, but when the library was burnt down the eviction had not taken place and the two communities considered themselves Tamils. Hence, one cannot read Nuhman’s poem in the context of eviction.
