@JimCantore@netnwx WESH 2 has had it's own radar for years in Orlando. It has been useful. It's funded by their parent company Hearst Television. We don't need to privatize all of US weather for accuweather to step up and add it's own radar system or other unique weather products.
@JimCantore WESH has their own radar system. Why isn't Accuweather using it's profits to help fill in other radar holes and return something unique and useful to it's users? This looks more like looking for govt handouts and then sell or force ad watch back to the taxpayers to see the data.
@jesseRoss597206 Read any of the NEXRAD instruction manuals out there? They can really help to decipher the data and clutter. https://t.co/CO8jw4FIcY Tracking nocturnal bird migrations with it is something too. https://t.co/9qkZXD7vOc
Ryan hits the nail on the head. Our National Weather Service is the best in the world, and we enjoy all that it offers for dirt cheap. If you're looking for government waste, this ain't the place.
To start meteorological winter 2024-25
I have an essay in NY Times this morning highlighting the importance of NOAA and especially the National Weather Service.
As my focus is numerical weather modeling, I believe it is critical for economic and national security to have world-leading capabilities across all time scales from minutes (tornado warnings), hours, days, and months or years.
The new Congress in January 2025 can immediately get to work on several priorities. With every taxpayer penny under intense scrutiny, I argue that investment in NOAA is money well spent.
@webberweather The Excessive Rainfall Outlook maps help. The hollers and valleys may need evacuation zones like the coast. Valley floods are becoming more common. Evacuations should happen sooner and some before the storm. River heights were pretty well forecast.
Flew with Miss Piggy (#NOAA43) into a strengthening Hurricane #Helene this morning.
Please be prepared if you are in the path.
Follow @NHC_Atlantic and @NOAA_HurrHunter for official updates.
Listen to your local officials. Care for your neighbors.
.@NOAA has released the first images from the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument on its newest #GOES19 satellite! 🌎📸
Launched in June, GOES-19 will take over as #GOESEast in April 2025, replacing #GOES16. Please note that GOES-19 data is currently preliminary and non-operational.

Some July notables: 108.5°F average temperature at Death Valley (hottest month in world history); 126 all-time heat records at stations with 40+ year of records; record warm-temperatures covered 13.8% of the world’s surface. https://t.co/ByftorvLMn
This is going to get expensive: If climate change increases the outside temperature from 96F to 100F, the energy your air conditioner consumes increases by 42%, since the power consumed varies by the square of the temperature difference between the outside and inside.
"In about 5 minutes you'll see the hurricane off to your right"
Me "excuse me sir can you please film out your window for me thnx" 😂😂😂
So cool to see #Beryl from the air!
