“Everybody who loves football will be pleased that he’s scored this.” - Lee Dixon with a colossal misunderstanding of how the average football fan sees Cristiano Ronaldo scoring against Uzbekistan.
@bbcnickrobinson The reporter who believes they’re covering an orgy, which is actual fact is governance of Britain, is the problem here. Thank you for laying bare the issue.
Starmer claiming he inherited a Labour Party that was ‘politically, financially and morally bankrupt’ in his resignation speech is a perfect snapshot of his tenure.
He used the party to settle factional scores, rather than delivering the transformative change people voted for.
Personally think Starmer probably hasn’t had enough time to undo all the dreadful stuff the Tories put in place, it takes ages. No doubt he’s made mistakes but find a political leader that doesn’t? Wins a major majority, does alright, hounded out, all seems a bit, forced?
No faith that Andy Burnham magically convinces the country he’ll do any better whilst the Greens and Lib Dem’s appear to lack any experience and Reform/Restore continue to fight to be the most vile, all good, only our day to day lives being affected!
@forwardnotback Honestly Tim, I’m quite disgusted. I’d lost so much faith in politics after the Tory years (and Labour’s attempts at opposition). Now I’m left searching for new vocabulary to describe how much farther that faith has fallen.
Let's be incredible clear here, the entire reason that Starmer is resigning is because people like Farage, Lowe, Robinson and co have convinced the lesser minded of the country that he was doing an awful job.
Anyone who can research can see he really wasn't...
The country, and in particular the left, should be ashamed of itself today for falling victim to so much RW propaganda. You’ll all see Burnham for what he is soon enough, and what comes after will be much worse. Great process everyone.
Genuinely couldn’t care less about Keir Starmer resigning, one thing we’ve learned over the last decade is they’re all the same, every single one of them are just opportunists looking for their moment in the sun, the cycle continues. 🥱
If Keir Starmer does resign, history will look back on his reign and scratch its head as to why the hell he was so hated.
On paper, he's probably delivered more to working British people in such a short time than any PM for decades.
After inheriting an absolute mess: NHS waiting lists fallen. Worker's rights improved. Rail operators nationalised. Improved relations with EU and improved UK's global reputation. Removed non-dom tax status. Halved childcare costs. Boosted state pensions. Lowest homicide rate in 50 years. Lifted 550k children out of poverty. Immigration vastly reduced.
We are in the age of billionaire funded misinformation, whose sole purpose is to topple democratically elected leaders, and insert leadership that favours the wealthy elites over the working people. Looks like the game plan is working...
