Salley Bailey, chief interpreter at the Council of Europe says that if we no longer had the constraints of the booth when interpreting remotely, we could think of a bigger nicer place to interpret.
What would you change in that case? #AIIC_CH#r1nt
If you email an interpreter asking for availability and a quote then dont get back to them until the day before the booking; don't be surprised if they're no longer available and you can't find anyone. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. #TerpLife
@RepMichaelWaltz @n1leftbehind@KatiePavlich Nope you won’t ? I was an interpreter with US forces and I applied for US visa since 2010 until now i have no visa Issued. My life it’s not good because I’am Not in my country because my country kill me if I stay in it. I left or I transferred to Turkey country.....
It was not until the Judge intervened that the language impasse ended. The judge used the mesolectal variety for the man to understand. That remains one of the most impactful court experiences I have had. Others have included the way lawyers talk down to their clients.
So here is the synopsis of my dissertation as promised. The Title is:
An Assessment of the Potential Impact of Contemporary Attitudes to Jamaican Language on Access to Justice Among Basilect Dominant/Monolingual Jamaicans.
An asylum appeal by an Eritrean woman, initially rejected by an immigration judge, has been overturned by the Upper Tribunal after it emerged the court interpreter embarked on a political rant to the woman’s barrister at the bus stop outside court afterwards. #legaluodate
This Toronto man testified in Spanish, then got an eight-year sentence. It was just tossed over his interpreter’s ‘significant’ errors. My story on the case of Luis Ramos: https://t.co/Wdy6K5zRs6 via @torontostar
With all due respect, agency, your opinion on whether a booking requires a coworker means diddly squat to me. How people who are not interpreters can think they have the knowledge to make this decision is beyond me. #terplife
BBI & THE YOUTH
. @Shikohkihika "They spoke about inclusivity but there was no sign language interpreter, meaning exclusion of PWDs. Kenyan youth do not need tax vacations, they need jobs, they borrow from one loaning app to pay another loan from a different app. #BBIDemystified
Oldest Sign Language interpreter has died. Ms. Lewis kept working until she was 95.
“You need to let them keep their dignity so they can participate in the world with equal access to communication," Norma Lewis

Selecting the right languages for #translation is challenging, but things get especially tough when a language has multiple variants.
Language is fluid and evolves differently over time, and today many common languages have distinct #linguisticvariation

Improbable situations in different languages!
🇬🇧 When pigs fly
🇫🇷 When hens have teeth
🇬🇪 When the donkey climbs the tree
🇸🇦 When the cow goes on pilgrimage on its horns
🇭🇺 When it's snowing red snowflakes
🇷🇺 When the crawfish whistles on the mountain

"We've now got evidence that under Boris Johnson the NHS is on the table and will be up for sale."
Jeremy Corbyn says Labour have obtained an unredacted 451-page report which shows there are "secret talks for a deal with Donald Trump after Brexit".
. @BorisJohnson "absolute cast iron guarantee" #NHS not on the table. Is this the same 'guarantee' he gave me & my legal team that Oarl woudln't be prorogued for 5 weeks up to the day before he announced exactly that?

Extreme interpreting at the highest level of responsibility: our colleague shows utmost concentration and the strain involved in hearing and noting the President's remarks while sitting behind him. A complex job based on complete neutrality and confidentiality.
