Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The infection most commonly affects young people. Gonorrhea is commonly asymptomatic, especially in individuals with female genitalia, which increases the risk of spread and complication
Disseminated Gonococcal Infection (DGI): This occurs when the infection spreads through the bloodstream to other parts of the body, leading to joint pain, skin lesions, and even life-threatening conditions like endocarditis ( a heart disease) or meningitis ( brain disease) .

There were over 2,6 million cases of malaria in Sierra Leone in 2019, and over 6000 malaria deaths.
It is time to eradicate this painful and deadly disease from our homeland.

Today we will be looking at yeast infections which most people think is an STI but it isn’t, instead it is inflammation of vulva caused by the overgrowth of Candida, a type of fungus which is a normal commensal of the vagina. #STIweek
Prevention
*wear breathable cotton underwear and avoid tight fitting clothing
*Avoid Douching as it disrupts balance or normal vaginal bacteria
*Limit antibiotics use and only take them when prescribed
* Maintain a healthy diet low in sugar
* Manageconditions such as diabetes
Today we will be talking about Human Papilloma Virus, which usually causes Cervical Cancer in women. It is the second most common among women in SL and estimates indicate that annually around 500 women are diagnosed with the disease of whom more than 70% will
HPV infection can be prevented by vaccination and use of condoms .
Cervical Screening (PAP smear) should be done for all sexually active women to detect cervical cancer early.
Screening for Cervical Cancer is free at Government hospitals in Sierra Leone.
Risk factors for genital/mucosal HPV infections include:
Immunodeficiency states eg . Diabetics, HIV
◦Unprotected sex
◦High number of lifetime sexual partners
◦Early age at first sexual activity
◦Uncircumcised males
