Chiefs 53 man roster if I had to guess today:
QB: Patrick Mahomes, Justin Fields, Garrett Nussmeier (3)
RB: Kenneth Walker III, Emmett Johnson, Emari Demercado (3)
WR: Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice, Tyquan Thornton, Cyrus Allen, Jalen Royals, Vet WR (6)
Patrick Mahomes was a strong MVP candidate through 13 weeks despite the Chiefs being 6-6
Mahomes was 3rd/33 in EPA per play up until that point with the highest usage rate in the league. The starting receivers were either suspended, injured or playing injured (not a single one had an above 50 ESPN receiver score). The lack of explosiveness in the run game wasn’t threatening defenses
Mahomes’ 8.8% scramble rate was the highest of his career. He was also pushing the ball down the field more because of Thornton’s big play ability. It was really impressive what he did in the offense!
The offense really broke down in the Texans and Chargers games against great defenses with multiple OL out. Without Mahomes, the Chiefs we’re starting some bad backup options but ranked 32nd/32 in EPA per play weeks 16-18
@MySportsUpdate@AdamSchefter People are going to overreact to this just like they did before, all this does is help the chiefs and mahomes at the same time. Way more contract flexibility in maneuvering the money and his contract will be jumped in the next 2 years by most high end deals. Great move to do now
if russ was on the OKC roster, he'd get into carter bryant's face after bulldozing SGA. and chet will be hearing from him all series. our team was just too soft TBH. if we are able to open enough roster spots this summer, bringing russ back is more than just a sentimental move.
@GeneralManagerO@ThunderChats I see your vision but I don’t think he would fit next to Chet or IHart. He’s an undersized center who can’t defend in space and can’t consistently shoot.
I just don’t see him ever contributing to a championship roster without a significant retool
