Lin Yun-Ju might have the cleanest technique in table tennis.
Silky backhand. Effortless timing. Strokes so crisp they look like a coaching video.
And yet, in the big matches, the ones that decide titles, he often plays it safe. Waits. Lets the opponent take control.
Talent keeps him near the top. Hesitation keeps him from the very top.
He's 25 now, and world No. 6. The window doesn't stay open forever.
For Lin, it's not about technique anymore. It's about presence.
To stand tall. To own the table. To let the opponent feel the aggression before the first serve.
To play loose. To play open. To play like nothing can hurt.
Be free, Lin. World No. 1 is waiting. ๐๐ฅ

Lin Shidong had a hard year.
Once world No. 1. Then the losses, the injury, the quiet weeks where nothing went right. His ranking slipped to No. 8.
At the Asian Games, his team lost the final.
You could see how much it hurt.
A few days later, he stepped up again. Singles final, against Wang Chuqin.
He won 4-0. ๐ฅ
I don't think he wasn't afraid. I think he was, and played anyway.
That's what courage usually looks like. Just showing up again after it hurt.
Fear is the feeling. Courage is the response. ๐

A teenager beat him at the All Japan Championships. Twice.
Then the same kid, Sora Matsushima, passed him in the world rankings.
Tomokazu Harimoto, Japan's No. 1 for years, was suddenly No. 2 in his own country.
Most would fight it. Sulk. Treat the kid as an enemy.
Harimoto did something else. โก
Asian Games final. Japan vs China, a wall that hadn't cracked in 32 years.
Harimoto walks out against world No. 1 Wang Chuqin and beats him 3-0.
Levels the tie at 2-2. Turns to Sora: "I'll win it and hand it to you. Just be ready."
Sora wins the decider. China falls. ๐๐ฅ
If you're attacked by a sword, be the ocean.
The sword can't cut water.
The ocean just swallows it, and carries it home. ๐
Pick a challenge too big for who you are now.
That's how people change. A challenge above your level drags the new version of you out.
It will suck. You'll fail constantly. You'll feel like a fraud for months. Your old self will beg you to stay the same.
But if you can pull this off, 10-20 times throughout your life, you will blow past everyone else.
Sora's rise is indeed insane. I hope all the Matsushima siblings rise to the top one by one. Such dedicated parents and children will make it happen. Adam Brurrows videos with Matshushima family really was the announcement to the world that new giants are about to rise. Sora is just the start.
@w5PEMUFM8l85259 Same feeling buddy. It's inevitable now. All players are playing hunger games now. Everyone willing to give everything they have to. It's just the extent of belief they have in the crucial points which will decide the winner. There are plenty skilled players now. Exciting.
What. A. Win. ๐คฏ

I think this is the exact reason all events are becoming something to yearn for. I love it how competitive all matches have become....so good ๐. When every match result becomes hard to predict only then the fans will enjoy the game even more.
Also, everyone is uping their game ....it's just the relentlessness battleground....Hoping for more uncertainty in the future ๐ค.
Exactly....Fans from other countries should follow the same.... It's high time table tennis gets the respect it deserves... It's such a complicated, competitive, intuitive and super satisfying sports to play and also to watch as fans...Chinese Fans are great when Chinese play against a non Chinese but when both the players are from China then favouritism becomes Toxic specially during Wang Chuqin and Sun's matches ... I mean these are the matches when the opponent Chinese players need even more support....who doesn't love an underdog story....
It's just about time Wang Chuqin, once he gets his mojo back, will reclaim is world number 1 title.
Lin Shidong will be a force to reckon with in the future tournaments.
Wen Ruibo will learn from the heartbreak in Asian games 2026.
Meanwhile there is a growing pool of Chinese players bound to have their good times in nearby future like Li Tianyang, Yuan Licen, Xu Yinbin, Huang Youzeng.
Chinese Table Tennis Team's resolve can never be doubted.
Non-Chinese Fans like me know that they can be beaten in a match or a tournament but they will always be back with Vengeance.
@777tabletennis_ Won't confuse going forward... like your page but Fraser is doing it repeatedly for a long time ...so couldn't keep it in...I like his commentating style minus the partiality. But nonetheless cheers to ur page for always posting good stuff.
When Thakkar was 0-2 down...@777tabletennis_ said that his comeback is not gonna happen in this match....Well it happened and as a commentator a lesson learnt that everything is possible at this level in table tennis....better to be less partial towards European and UK players. And have rational commentary as a fan....Funny thing is he started changing his tune from the 4th game when he thought Gauzy might be in trouble and almost went silent when Thakkar won. He does this with all non European players. I like his youtube channel also off the bounce .....but commentary needs total impartiality and love for the game.
