@SABCNews When Thabo Bester was arrested in Tanzania, our government had to be very careful in how he was brought back to SA to ensure it was within international law pertinent to arrests in another country. And Thabo wasn’t even a head of state because laws matter or should do so equally!
There should be as that would enable our companies to do even better in that large markets. In terms of pop, 1 of every African is Nigerian and that trend will continue making them and their market in-ignorable just like China is to the world. SA is Africa’s most advanced economy but we ain’t taking enough advantage of that!
@SABCNews Is it a coincidence that at the minister’s previous stint at Health illegal immigrants were the reason the health system was crumbling and when he was at Home Affairs they were suddenly the number 1 cause of failures there too and now again back at Health the script replays?!🤷🏽♂️
We should start with the manufacturing of most of the products consumed by our economies which would lead to the development of industries (input & component supplies) and then beneficiation will follow. This is the natural development hence the difficulties in forcing local beneficiation when there is no local industry for it to feed into.
Dear SA media. A quick one. There is no "White House officials" who communicate state to state relations via a 1.36% party & 2 Afrikaner leaders. Your reports need to make a clear distinction between interest group lobbying and state relations. Groups pay lobbyists who create engagements and meetings. It is lobbying.
The White House has the Bureau of African Affairs, headed by Troy Fitrell. He was in Angola this week, at the US- Africa Business Summit. South Africa's representative was there. Fitrell's mandate is to sell the US's Commercial Diplomacy strategy for Africa. That's where your story lies. Not meetings with anonymous officials.
Fitrell is leaving the State Department next month. Jonathan Pratt will take over and continue engaging STATES and African business on these issues. That's where the juice is.
Blowing up every trip organised between an interest group and their lobbyists may be interesting. Report on it if you want. But don't dumb your audience down with "The US says..." or "White House Officials say..." Which officials?
Even an individual Senator or Congressman/woman can not decide state-to-state relations. They can lobby & introduce bills. Even then, it is not, "The US says....."
Can ENCA and any other journalist who is going to propagate their list of demands ask them the names of the Whitehouse officials they met and the official bilateral communique from these officials?
Diplomacy is more rigorous than claiming meetings happened and stating a list of conditions!
@mteton The sad part is that many business development managers/investment officers at some DFIs that are meant to promote industrialisation are rather promoting importation from China!🤷🏽♂️
The issue is you all trying to make it seem like the migration happened 200 years ago when indeed it’s over 2000 years ago!
And since you are so big on this migration why don’t you celebrate that Africa is the cradle of humankind and that you all originate from Cameroon and got white over the ages due to the melanin reducing to accommodate for the reduced sunshine and extreme cold?!🤷🏽♂️
This constant seeking of division doesn’t serve humanity nor any particular grouping in the long run!
@kalliekriel@afriforum What all these individuals calling for sanctions against the ANC and SA are ignoring is that were it not for the ANC’s non-racialism rule; SA would have had a devastating civil war by now!
@ianmiles The real question is; should politicians be above the law? If the answer is yes, then we will end up with an interesting precedent whereby someone who has ran foul with the law can merely run for office in order to evade the law!🤷🏽♂️
@joelpollak@ferialhaffajee@dailymaverick It’s a basic premise of an argument, ain’t it. You can’t just claim they did without evidence and then request to be proven wrong. Burden of proof lies with the accuser!
@lordmiles Interesting! When people leave their home countries because of too many foreigners, don’t they end up being foreigners wherever they move too?!🤷🏽♂️
