The South Meadows Action Group (SMAG) is a communiuty organisation currently focussed on the effects of the communal bin hub implementation in Edinburgh.
The new normal across the whole South Meadows area.
@Edinburgh_CC told residents that the problems they were advising would happen with the new bin-hubs "couldn't", "simply wouldn't be allowed to" occur.
Yet here we all are.
Just back from a lovely weekend in Prague. Lots of excited tourists on the tram from the airport wondering what they’ll see in #morningside 🤢🫣here in #edinburgh@smagsocials
SMAG has been informed that choosing bin hub locations was outsourced to a London co. that simply used a distance calculation and Google maps. No visits. No impact assessments.
Here's the Freedom of Information request submitted to @Edinburgh_CC to ascertain the facts:
@edinhelp@Edinburgh_CC Apologies Zara, but again, @SmagSocials isn't utilised as a reporting portal.
It's simply drawing attention to the disparity between the service agreement promised and actual delivery across the whole South Meadows area.
@ProfJuneAndrews@edinburghpaper@EdinburghCC The collection rules are clear.
Only from kerbside outside the property requesting uplift and from 7am on the specific day of collection.
Disabled/elderly etc. can advise CEC so it can be collected directly from the flat at no charge.
Using a hub is fly-tipping!
@ProfJuneAndrews This is simply the 'broken windows' theory in action.
Because @Edinburgh_CC have allowed this situation to develop (after telling residents it couldn't, or wouldn't be allowed to, happen with the new hubs), it then attracts more anti-social behaviour.
Why not burn off those bank holiday blues with a stroll around @Edinburgh_CC's #Marchmont.
UNESCO world heritage city, conservation zone due to its unique historical value and character. All in the shadow of the majestic castle.
A truly memorable experience: @unesco553
Bank Holiday? 23 degrees? Sunny Sciennes?
Nothing beats a relaxing lounge in the sun in one of the @Edinburgh_CC's tourist hotspots. Go on..., you know it makes sense. #visitEdinburgh#festivalcity
Great news for Bank Holiday Monday: that extra comfy seat they installed near the Meadows is still available.
We'd say be quick to avoid disappointment, but with @Edinburgh_CC... ? #visitEdinburgh#festivalcity
@ProfJuneAndrews@Edinburgh_CC@BBCScotland@Sunday_Post@TimesScotland Interesting... Hadn't heard that, but if true surely it then has to be asked:
1) Why are crews prohibited from simply dealing with this situation, and
2) Why hasn't @Edinburgh_CC any process in place to deal with the problems that arise as a result of its rule?
Remember the single hub we highlighted the other day? Well, here it is again this afternoon... just after @Edinburgh_CC had collected the recycling in Marchmont.
It's not just continuous fly tipping, it's the shocking service delivery affecting the whole South Meadows area:
