A historian once wrote about ancient Athens, “It is easier to find a god than a man in Athens.”
Me: “It is easier to find a committee than a man at this church.”
One of our local homeless guys rolled into church today. Here are a few of the gems:
“When can I preach?”
“Can I take a pew bible home?”
“Did you gain weight?”
“When is the next potluck?”
Strong start to 2024.
@MrChurchGuy It was a good platform to stay informed. There used to be a lot of great humor. I started mostly as a way to share the lighter side of small church life. I still look at it every now and then, but it’s become more and more unpleasant.
#x reminds me of the early 2000’s when everyone showed up to First Baptist Church and it was suddenly called “Cornerstone Fellowship “ for some reason.
Someone needs to write the song, “Try That In A Small Church.”
I can imagine the opening lines,
“You bring coffee and a donut into the sanctuary.
You preach from an IPad and don’t wear a tie.
You say there are no designated spots in the pews.
Try that in a small church.”
@edstetzer I took over from a pastor who had served for almost 40 years. He mentored me and guided me. Humility is why the transition worked. I’m still going strong 15 years later because of him.
There are so many small/mid-size churches w huge kingdom impact training and sending people into ministry outside their walls.
They're not be well-known because their congregation is small. But their size doesn’t limit their impact or effectiveness.
