Smart Streets is the redesign of streets to better accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and motorists while creating a more vibrant environment.

Beginning Sept. 21, Olive St from Lincoln Way West to Hartzer St will be closed to install storm sewers for the Lincoln Way West and Olive Streetscape Project. Detour routes will be Hartzer and Meade streets via Bonds Ave. The anticipated reopening date is end of day Sept. 23.

The City of South Bend has awarded a $1.7 million contract to bring streetscape improvements to Lincolnway West at Olive Street. Project is to include new curbs, sidewalks, paving, protected bike lanes, street lighting, and trees.

❗️UPDATE❗️Bendix Drive has reopened to two-way traffic.

The street is now a three-lane corridor – two travel lanes with a center turn lane. Improvements included new concrete pavement, a multipurpose trail on the east side of the street, signal modernization, curbs & approaches.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Western Avenue from Dundee Street to Falcon Street is closed for water service and stormwater utility work. The anticipated reopening date for the westbound lane of Western Avenue is Friday, August 30, weather permitting.
