Our expectations we put on students are what limits their learning. First graders excelling at station rotation #blendedlearning@hstaker@r2blend @GPSBlended
@LaProfeRichter We are the only immersion school in the north metro. There are more in the southern metro. We always have openings every year b/c we have had a lot of cuts over the past few years.
A5: Wait time is so valuable! I like to use this so I can hear from other ss and give them time to find the confidence to share their answers w/others :) #langbook
@DawnCarney3 @kaitlin31415 @MmeBlouwolff I agree. I normally let them try their best to string words together and if it doesn't sound right, they know they need to fix something.
A4: When my ss don't know what they want to say they normally slip into L1. They have no problems talking about what they need to do b/c I have given them this vocab during lessons and convos. I let ss use their friends or "¿Cómo se dice?" when they don't know. #langbook
@GMancuso13 @MmeBlouwolff Interesting b/c I teach in immersion, so I always feel like they need a full sentence to respond when in reality we don't talk like that in the real world.
A3: I normally ignore most errors, unless it's a commonly used word in the beginning of the year. I definitely don't want my Ss to stop sharing b/c they aren't using the correct form of a word. #langbook
@mmefmartinez Do you try and keep stories short? I teach 2nd grade and they don't always like to listen to stories in L2 at the beginning of the year. At this time of the year things are much better though.
A2: I use the L2 for my morning meeting message and purposely make errors (ex. capitals, punctuation, IOP, DOP, using s for plurals and the article, etc.). The Ss need to find them and they LOVE it. It teaches them within the context right and wrong. #langbook
A1 I teach math & science to 2nd graders in Spanish, so I like to give them lots of time to practice their L2 at the beginning of the year during math station rotations. This helps to promote language learning from their classmates, before talking in front of the class #langbook
