After a lesson on the value of handwritten correspondence, students had to handwrite & mail a letter with a sketch to someone about their #COVID19 experiences. Here is an adorable cartoon one of my students drew. Please RT to spread #PositiveVibes#coronavirus#History
You can see the progression in the articles. Thanks to the @nytimes archives for these sources used to spark valuable and relevant historical discourse. My students never cease to amaze me with their insight. #distancelearning@JamesKratch
I went into the archives to see what the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic was like in New Jersey. And at times I felt like I was reading today's news.

SO proud of my students & their ability to adjust and adapt to distance learning. Having amazing conversations on current events and the 1918-19 Flu Pandemic, now getting to Roaring Twenties. Here is a personal connection to 1919 pandemic,my 2nd great grandparents. @JamesKratch
Preparing his students for starting Hero of the Empire by @candice_millard, Mr. Pawlowski leads his @EBCJHS students on an in school field trip to the main office so that they can read why we are Churchill Junior High. A simple but great idea.
Awesome! Fitting that today’s lesson includes a bit on the history football and how Theodore Roosevelt influenced the sport. #Rutgers#TR@GregSchiano#Chop @TRooseveltNPS
My students especially enjoyed the hands-on document based activity: “Who’s the Victor?” They researched Edison and Victrola phonographs, played them and had a debate over which product was better! @ThomasEdisonNHP
Thanks to @NPSEducation Ranger Shemaine for hosting my students @ThomasEdisonNHP earlier this week. We enjoyed getting to experience firsthand where Edison and his employees researched and developed many of the things we use each day.
One of our favorite holiday items is this Thomas Nast cartoon of Santa in front of the White House chimney and the stockings of the Roosevelt children. Mast, a political cartoonist, is better known for creating the modern image of Santa Claus.
