@SeanMombo I do not believe:
1. God as source of morality
2. God as source of free will
I do believe:
3. In God
4. That mankind is fundamentally ignorant and evil
So I think we're 0/4 on agreeing here which is really something. But found this stimulating to think about, so thank you!
@eigenrobot Can't speak to translation quality but I enjoyed the one on Gutenburg: https://t.co/J4zHsTZaye
My italian-speaking brother recommended it so presumably it doesn't suck
Swedish sailor Åke Viking dies at the age of 67.
Viking gained fame when, working as a sailor in 1955, he sent a message in a bottle “To Someone Beautiful and Far Away” out to sea.
After several months, the bottle reached the shores of Sicily, and a 15-year-old girl named Paolina, who wrote to Viking.
They maintained a two-year correspondence before marrying in 1958, and they remained married for 43 years, until Åke’s death today.
so naturally one asks -- why would they *want* to build crappy grocery stores that have conflicting goals and will be mismanaged? Because either that's the goal... or else they have no idea how to actually craft an RFP or run a business.
Cutting wheat yesterday: roughly 100 grains harvested for each grain sown. In the 1300s on the Bishop of Winchester's manors, 5:1 was a good harvest, 3:1 a bad one. Thank you, Haber-Bosch nitrogen fixation and hydrocarbons, for feeding billions and sparing land.
