In Visayan mythologies, eclipses happen when the sky-serpent called "bakunawa" (literally, "bent serpent") swallows the moon.
In Iloilo, it is tradition that during an eclipse, people make noise using metal pots to distract the bakunawa and cause it to spit out the moon.
