My life’s work is getting kids to eat beans to save animals and the planet. Adding advocacy for SMI and homeless now. Love to sing. And snuggle w my pets.
@kevinvdahlgren Bless your heart. But…this person is likely self medicating for psychosis/schizophrenia (possibly drug induced) and will never be “ready”/capable of volunteering. My psychotic son died on the streets because he had the “right” to leave court ordered treatment.
@JanetHaysNOLA 100% true and shattering for the family. Maybe moms especially. My son was one of those lost souls who could not get the help he needed. May he rest in peace.
@JanetHaysNOLA@MWollenweber@FixNOLA@NOPDNews I’ve seen the headlines - many times, of someone w SMI in crisis being killed by police. And there are those in the SMI groups whose children have been harmed or killed. Definitely best to have a psychological emergency response team (PERT), but they are few.
Some people seem to have forgotten how bad a president Trump was, so I made a list of the 100 Worst Things About the Trump Presidency, in no particular order. Please share and add anything I missed. 🧵
@war24182236 started w high potency marijuana my son started smoking in college - 900% more concentrated now - and that much more addictive. We need laws against high potency marijuana and aHUGE public heath campaign. My son was one semester away from graduating college w honors.
@war24182236 This was my son. May he RIP. We tried everything. He tried everything. The drugs are SO addictive and these poor souls need at the very least a year of INvoluntary treatment - parents do not have that authority - which they SHOULD. It shattered our family. And the addiction…
@CorcoranAnn TRAGIC. Nicks story is our family’s story. Our Jack is gone. There must be a national public health campaign to warn families about the dangers of today’s commercialized high potency THC marijuana- it’s up to 1000x more potent than natural marijuana and it causes psychosis
@JanetHaysNOLA In the same way cities have requirements for affordable housing, every city needs to have small and multiple developed, accessible “camp sites” - places for compassionate shelter from elements, with sanitation - and where service providers can connect.
Prop 1 would not have happened without the bold, brave, courageous leadership of @namicalifornia. Thank you from the bottom of my broken heart which is now filled with hope for change that matters. #FamiliesLikeMine are ready to shatter the silence, the shame and the status quo.
@sczaction I wish we could change the name of diagnosis altogether. The word schizophrenia sounds scary and overwhelming, and carries so much stigma. Maybe… “Alternate Reality Syndrome”
Alison Monroe gives a brilliant rundown of why everyone should #VoteforProp1 to help our sickest get the lifesaving healthcare they need and deserve to live their best lives in #recovery.
