We will never have a strong economy unless we invest seriously in our public services. When we are in unwell, poorly educated, or living in precarious, poor-quality housing, our lives suffer, our communities suffer - and we are less productive.
New blog out with @NEF 🚨
There are many examples of local organisations stepping in to meet their communities' needs, despite years of underinvestment in our public services - our Local Action project explores some of these inspiring cases!

Strong public services that meet all of our needs are essential for decarbonising the economy and achieving a just transition 🏘️🏥🚃🔋🌍
This is an argument that is often overlooked, addressed by Maeve Cohen in this @SectorFocus blog...

Getting from A to B should be easy and affordable for everyone. Instead, our transport system drives poverty and isolation.

New analysis: If four UK airport expansions including Heathrow are allowed to go ahead, they will cancel out the carbon savings of this government’s clean power plan IN JUST FIVE YEARS. This government must cancel these planned expansions.
A thriving economy and society are based on well funded schools, health services, infrastructure and emergency services.
The government must find ways to fund these things, rather than looking to cut their funding.

Good to see some important developments in the new Renters' Rights Bill - although it should go further to prevent backdoor no-fault evictions via rent hikes.
Rent controls are needed to increase security for renters and truly overcome the housing crisis 🏘️
Our Renters’ Rights Bill will cap advance rent payments at one month’s rent.
We’ll stop landlords demanding multiple months’ rent in advance as a condition for securing a home.

The only long-term solution to the crisis of privatisation:
Public ownership of our water system — so billions are invested into making our water clean and safe, not lining the pockets of investors.
As millions of us prepare to travel to see loved ones this Christmas, what if we treated transport as a universal basic service? How can we use trains, buses, cars, bikes + more to reduce our environmental impact, while meeting our needs? Our new briefing with @SocialGuarantee

New from @NEF We all need to get around. So should transport be a universal basic service? And how can it help us meet our needs, while staying with environmental limits?
Transport is vital for living a healthy life. This new paper shows improving public transport is central to health equity by promoting active travel to work and reducing emissions.
