Amhara women are not statistics. They are daughters, mothers, & students, yet they endure rape, domestic abuse, abduction of students, & modern-day slavery both at home & abroad. Their pain is real. Their voices matter. Every silence becomes part of the violence.

"Iโll never be an Amhara."
These were the heartbreaking final words of Aisha, a 6-year-old Amhara girl targeted & killed by Oromo extremists. A child should never have to beg for her life, let alone apologize for her identity. Remember her name. Demand justice.

Our voices
I cast my vote today and in doing so, joined millions of my fellow citizens in writing a new chapter for #Ethiopia's democracy. Our democracy may be young, but the mandate of our people is resolute, irreversible and entirely our own. The true measure of this day stands not in the headlines of the foreign media critics I read, but in the long queues of our people I saw with my naked-eye.
June is a time to raise our voices and stand for justice.
This week, we honor the strength of Amhara women and call on supporters everywhere to stand in solidarity. Together, we can bring greater awareness to their struggle.

Shattering the Silence on Amhara Women
A devastating humanitarian crisis is unfolding for Amhara women, both within their homeland and across the global, that international media and institutions have largely ignored.
When structural violence and political instability collide, women inevitably bear the heaviest burden. To truly understand this crisis, we must confront the complex web of violence, displacement, and exploitation that threatens their lives, their education, and their futures.
The reality behind this silence is defined by weaponized violence, stolen futures, and modern-day slavery. In conflict zones, sexual violence is systematically used to terrorize communities, leaving survivors without critical healthcare or legal recourse, while a rising trend of student abductions actively robs a generation of its education.
At the same time, severe domestic instability forces thousands to migrate to the Middle East, where they fall prey to predatory trafficking networks.
True solidarity requires moving beyond mere recognition; because silence allows injustice to thrive, the global community must actively refuse to look away. Driving tangible change means directing visibility and immediate resources toward the grassroots legal aid groups, mental health networks, and safe havens working on the ground to rescue and rehabilitate survivors.
