Zelenskyy posthumously awarded him the title of "Hero of Ukraine".

The SSU investigators confirmed that he was a sniper of the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate brigade of the territorial defense of the Chernihiv region Oleksandr Matsievsky.

The defender of Ukraine was shot on December 30, 2022. His body was returned home in February 2023.

"Today I conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine on Oleksandr Matsievsky. A soldier. A man who will be known by all Ukrainians. A man who will be remembered forever. For his courage, for his confidence - in Ukraine - and for his "Glory to Ukraine!", Zelenskyy said in his evening address.
