Four Black Mississippi families are seeking answers about cases they say were mishandled by a medical examiner in several death investigations.

The family of 18-year-old Nolan Wells says the state autopsy removed part of his throat before an independent examination, which they say prevented their pathologist from fully evaluating his cause of death. In another case, the death of Delta State student Demartravion “Trey” Reed was ruled a suicide, a finding his family disputes. In a third, Damien Cameron’s death was ruled “undetermined” before three independent forensic pathologists later concluded it was a homicide.
