A few quick tips to stay safe when using blockchains and cryptocurrency:
1/4 Do not install any games, applications, or browser extensions that are not 1000% secure and backed by community.
Many scams come in DMs via Twitter or discord, and ask you to try a “beta” or “alpha” version of a crypto game.
These are almost always fake and malicious, and may very well drain your wallet if it worse.
Same with zoom meetings or any other links to download an application for a “job interview” or anything of the sort. It’s almost always a scam. 99.99% a scam. If you’re even a little unsure, ask the community and make sure reputable people you know vouch for it.
Let’s take a look at one of my favorite blockchain companies and communities on #Solana - Helium.
This tweet was actually sent using their mobile service, as I am a Helium Mobile subscriber and wrote this on my iPhone.
The main accounts to follow include: @helium and @helium_mobile run by the @HeliumFndn
The Helium network started in 2019 and moved to Solana from their own blockchain in April 2023, and it has many interesting features.
@helium itself is a DEPIN (DEcentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) project which partners with @TMobile to offer @helium_mobile - a fast growing 100k+ subscriber 5G affordable cell phone plan ($20/month but can be less if you opt in to their mapping which you are then rewarded with $MOBILE token which you can then use to pay for your plan) each subscriber gets a compressed NFT to track their membership and more. I essentially paid $0 for my cell phone bill with them over the last 3 months. The T-Mobile network uses helium iOT devices to assist their network in providing service to the subscribers cell phones.
People and businesses can offer hotspot devices to grow the helium network coverage, and earn $HNT token by doing so. Currently they have over 1,008,158 helium hotspot devices providing service and being rewarded for doing so.
They have also recently expanded coverage to Mexico with a partnership with @Telefonica@helium can do much more, and is often referred to as “The People’s Network” and also offers service to a variety of other companies and organizations through their global LoRaWAN network. These tips mean a lot to open source projects like @SolPressPlugins - it's very hard to monetize open source and with a team of only two people and my recent health issues and medical debt, it really does make a difference with timelines for upcoming updates and features. ✊🚀
A few months ago we set out to build the next generation of the @getcode infrastructure that would deliver instant, guaranteed payments, but this time at a fraction of the cost.
That turned into the Code VM — A purpose built-program that reduces transaction fees by up to 95% and account rent by 80% for hot accounts or near zero for cold storage when compared to our original approach.
Today we've taken the next step to open source this program. There is still much work to do as we move through the integration with the Code sequencer and mobile clients. Open sourcing is the logical next step in our development process which will ultimately culminate in a full program audit and mainnet deployment.
We look forward to continuing to share progress on the Code VM, and delivering killer product experiences that are only made possible by this sophisticated piece of infrastructure. As always, the best way to stay up to date is to follow @getcode and join the Discord.
