Retatrutide led to more than double the weight loss of Ozempic in a head-to-head Phase 3 trial of people with type 2 diabetes.
- 20.9% bodyweight lost on 12mg vs. 9.4% on Ozempic 2mg (its highest dose)
- 47.4 pounds on avg. vs. 20.9
2027 is the year of retatrutide.
Many people have never owned a laptop and have only ever had phones. They automatically touch the screens of laptops. This is, in a way, Apple's own doing (via winning so hard).
The thing that specifically killed crypto isn’t quite clear.
Yes it has scammy stuff but nothing particular new happened last year to explain why it died so completely.
As @Jason pointed out - Bitcoin is not looking good. The rest of the space failed far worse.
It just all sort of fell over dead after October.
Like a balloon with all the air being let out.
My personal theory is that a huge mass of tokens were being propped up by exchanges and market makers.
But when the liquidity began draining, the exchanges refused to keep up the charade as @martypartymusic has talked about “the market makers are turned off.”
The drain of the liquidity has many potential causes. Maybe it was pumpfun, maybe it was too many extractive L1 launches.
Maybe AI was just a better investment.
Maybe it was prediction markets seeming more fair. Maybe it was the struggle to get regulation not stuffed with congressional pork. Maybe it was the death of retail due to economic downturn. Maybe it was tariffs and high interest rates.
Maybe it was all of these stacked together at once.
The other issue with all the dead tokens is that the vesting of these tokens is extractive to the exchanges themselves - so letting them maintain a reasonable value was untenable for exchanges.
So they were allowed to drain off.
That murdered the entire venture space and killed team formation altogether.
The unfortunate funding dynamics for how these tokens are created, launched and vested has therefore been irrecoverably damaged.
VC want nothing to do with the space and retail got burned permanently.
This suggests a path forward focusing almost completely on fixing the core structures of treasury management, market making, funding and vesting.
With AI. Obviously.
The reality is the patient died from 7-8 stab wounds. Patching 3-4 of them is insufficient.
We have had bear markets before but this one seems like the fundamental core financing structures and faith in the system died as well along with the willingness of those capable of doing the market making to keep the show going.
Once I finish this pass with overhauling @verafyfoundtn this week, I have some ideas.
Not just one product but maybe 5-6.
AI has clearly attracted all the working capital.
Fine.
But plenty of arguments about why AI and Crypto should be “fine.”
But it’s not, obviously.
If I come back to this I will focus on trying to address 5-6 of the key stab wounds that have murdered the space.
Yes my solutions will all involve AI rather than humans making decisions.
Bringing investment capital back into the space is an incentive design problem above all.
Humans are no longer trustworthy to manage the capital, so neutral AI must be imported to do that work.
Long story short, the money that comes in drains out through too many holes. Solve that problem. Plug the leaks.
The money needs to be trapped in crypto and kept there. Probably via provably neutral AI treasury management and vesting.
How did Travis Kalanick fail upwards. He had to scrape together $10K checks from angels to build and launch the app. Sam Altman worked on OpenAI for an eternity (7 years) before ChatGPT. Thats not failing upwards, that is taking significant personal risk / putting in deep time on a hard problem
This problem can be solved via implementing controls governed by trusted, neutral AI that is sandboxed and prevented from being tampered with. The WLFI debacle could have been avoided similarly imo. Voting process for that thing is a total scam.
The first ICOs appeared back in 2013. They immediately became a breakout use case for crypto. But then they spent the next decade+ scamming innocent people, destroying the public's trust, and incinerating billions and billions of dollars. Now, years later, a band of self described "futards" believes they have an answer. A way to harness the power of the ICO and use the internet to coordinate global capital. Stay tuned for what happens next
