Everyone at Basingstoke Town is saddened to hear this news, particularly having seen Sol suffer the injury in our game last weekend.
It can sometimes be taken for granted, just how much playing football means to these lads. The hours they put in, the sacrifices they make and how much of their lives revolve around being able to step onto a football pitch.
To have that taken away through injury is incredibly difficult. It’s not just the physical challenge of recovery, but the mental challenge of watching from the sidelines when all you want to do is be out there with your teammates.
We’ve no doubt Sol will receive tremendous support from everyone at AFC Totton throughout his rehabilitation, and we sincerely wish him all the very best.
We hope his recovery goes well and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch doing what he loves.
💙 Sol Wanjau-Smith | Injury Update
Sol Wanjau-Smith has received the results of his scan, which have confirmed an ACL injury.
Sol will be out for the foreseeable future as he begins his rehabilitation. Everyone at AFC Totton is behind Sol and will support him throughout his recovery.
First-team manager Scott Rendell said:
“We’re absolutely devastated for Sol. He’s a really important player for us and someone who brings a lot to the team, both on and off the pitch. To lose a player of his quality for the remainder of the season is a massive blow, but more importantly, we’re all disappointed for Sol personally.
He’s a great character and a big part of our dressing room. We know he’ll approach his rehabilitation with determination and commitment to get back stronger and better. Everyone at the club is right behind him, and we’ll give him all the support he needs throughout his recovery.
Director of Football Dave Wright added:
“First and foremost, everyone at AFC Totton is incredibly disappointed for Sol. He’s a player we value, not just for his ability and contribution on the pitch, but equally for the character and professionalism he brings to the football club.
Losing such an influential player for the season is undoubtedly a significant setback, but our immediate priority is Sol’s wellbeing and ensuring he receives the best possible support throughout his rehabilitation.
Injuries of this nature are incredibly difficult for any player, both physically and mentally, and it’s important Sol knows he has the full backing of everyone at AFC Totton. He remains a hugely valued member of our group, and we’ll be with him every step of the way.
On behalf of the board, staff, players and everyone associated with the club, we wish Sol a successful recovery.”
Everyone at AFC Totton is right behind you, Sol. 💙
