Envisioning a positive future beyond scarcity and hierarchy, where humanity is reintegrated with nature and open technology is used for good #solarpunk
Imagine a world where hard work is rewarded, truth and justice prevail in courtrooms, the government doesn’t steal your labor by debasing the currency, bureaucrats aren’t captured by corporations, and our taxes go toward critical infrastructure instead of wars overseas.
Let's change our narratives from doomer to optimistic.
It's what attracted me to Solarpunk before people started making it political.
We live in an age where aging isn't inevitable. So why not give ourselves the best shot of not missing and cut off and look after ourselves the best that we can?
This is a great conversation.
They explore the inspiration behind @Geoship (spolier alert: it's not just providing affordable housing).
The continuation of Buckminster Fuller's dream is full steam ahead, and I think Bucky would be smiling from wherever he may be now.. ✨
I just don't get why people question where we will find our purpose in a post jobs world..
My most fulfilling things in life are my relationships (myself, others and nature), creating and mastering skills. All of which will still exist..
Restoration plantings that echo natural patterns—clumps, gaps, and gentle gradients—tend to recruit wildlife sooner and develop structure faster than grid‑straight rows.
Imagine this: It’s 2065.
Nobody works for survival anymore, AI and automation run the entire economy. Food, shelter, knowledge, and energy are abundant, cheaper than today’s tap water. Scarcity is a word in history books.
Humans don’t retire, they reinvent. At 80, you look 40, because longevity escape velocity was hit in the 2040s. Life spans are open-ended; “death by aging” is seen as a primitive tragedy, like dying of smallpox.
Children grow up in a world where money is a cultural relic, not a necessity. Instead of labor, people pursue curiosity, creation, and meaning. You don’t earn a living, you live, and choose how to shape your existence.
The thought experiment: if a society without scarcity, aging, or labor truly emerges… what will humans do with eternity? Will we flourish in infinite exploration, or struggle to find purpose when survival is no longer the game?
The future isn’t about what we can build, but whether we’re ready for what happens when every constraint we’ve ever known dissolves.
Would you thrive or lose yourself, in such a world?
A throwback to an illustration I made back in 2021 in collaboration with the late Claire Janisch, and all round gem of a human being and a strong voice and educator in the field of Biomimicry.
This artwork was meant to be part of a larger project which unfortunately never came to be. The aim was to highlight different plants and animals in their natural environment, which have inspired the design and application of Biomimicry through textiles, products, engineering, systems thinking etc.
I had a lot of fun painting this and certainly learned a lot in the process :)

So the people behind @Geoship experimented with sustainable building materials for years.
They came up with a zero toxicity material that resembles bone.
It's tough, fire resistant, non toxic and sustainable. Now the business is building behind them. Great times ahead..
Have had the pleasure of speaking with David a few times. Always added a fresh perspective to my thinking.
Haven't read these old school Permaculture books from David or Bill Mollison yet. I'm taking this post from @TheVenusProject as a sign to do so..
