Today, we said goodbye to Brenda Fricker.

For many people, she wasn't just an Oscar-winning actress. She was the Pigeon Lady—the kind, lonely soul who reminded us that Christmas is about compassion, forgiveness and reaching out to those who need it most.

Rewatching Home Alone this Christmas is going to be especially painful 🥺

Within just a few months, the franchise lost two of its most beloved stars: Catherine O’Hara, who played Kevin’s devoted mother Kate McCallister, and Brenda Fricker, remembered as the kindhearted Pigeon Lady from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

O’Hara passed away in January 2026 at the age of 71. Her frantic, emotional journey to reunite with Kevin became the heart of the original film and helped make Kate one of cinema’s most memorable movie mothers.

Fricker passed away this July at the age of 81 following a period of ill health. An Oscar-winning actress for My Left Foot, she also became part of countless Christmas memories as the lonely Central Park woman who formed an unexpected friendship with Kevin and taught him about trust, kindness, and opening his heart.

One desperately crossed the world to return to Kevin. The other gave him comfort when he felt alone in New York. Their performances helped give Home Alone its lasting emotional warmth.

This Christmas, revisiting those films will carry more sadness, but it will also keep their unforgettable work alive. ❤️
