ERITREA ― The Embassy of the State of #Eritrea wishes to categorically reject the statement made by the @ukhomeoffice Secretary on 14 October 2026 yesterday, alleging that Eritrea has “abruptly” withdrawn cooperation on “enforced and escorted return” of its nationals.
As for imposing “corrective visa actions,” regrettable as it may be, the UK has not issued a single visa to an Eritrean official since 2023, a fact that hardly needs repeating.

The Embassy of the State of Eritrea wishes to categorically reject the statement made by the UK Home Secretary on 14 October 2026 yesterday, alleging that Eritrea has “abruptly” withdrawn cooperation on “enforced and escorted return” of its nationals.
In this respect, the Embassy wishes to underline:
1. The Government of the State of Eritrea does not accept the forced return of its Citizens and has duly communicated this fact to British Government officials on various occasions.
2. Despite Eritrea’s repeated requests for constructive discussion with relevant UK authorities on the dignified return of its citizens, the UK has shown no interest to engage in meaningful and appropriate dialogue. Instead, it continues to insist on enforced repatriation, in direct contradiction of its own Country Guidance Policy on Eritrea.
3. The fundamental core issue behind this matter is the UK’s decision to politicize its asylum system and extend blanket asylum to anyone who claims to be Eritrean in a bid to undermine the Government of the State of Eritrea. Invariably, this policy of offering prima facia asylum has served as a pull factor to the UK for mostly underage Eritreans as well as non-Eritrean asylum seekers masquerading as Eritreans. This unwarranted action has immensely compounded the problem beyond normative proportions.
4. Due to unacceptable practices by UK authorities, such as failing to disclose that they were returning convicted criminals still serving prison terms and describing returnees as “voluntary” when clearly, they were not, the State of Eritrea was forced to suspend the practice of escorting Eritrean nationals who were supposedly ‘voluntarily’ returning to their homeland.
While the Home Secretary’s current decision to impose “corrective visa actions” is regrettable, the act is nothing more than a perfunctory political gimmick.
The fact is, the UK has not issued a single visa to an Eritrean official since 2023.

Eritrea participates in workshop on Non-Use of Solar Geoengineering
The African Diplomatic Group organized a workshop on the Non-Use of solar Geoengineering in Limuru, Kenya, from 11 to 13 October, aimed at strengthening African capacity.
The meeting was attended by representatives of member countries, including Eritrea, climate and environmental experts, as well as representatives of regional and international organizations.
The workshop discussed the Non-Use of Solar Geoengineering, highlighting concerns that the technology, which aims to reduce global warming by limiting the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth, could cause serious harm to the climate and environment.
The participants, noting that Africa’s opposition to the technology is not matched by its scientific capacity, called for an international convention prohibiting its use. They also called for bans on government funding, open-air and environmental testing, legal rights to control the technology, and support from international organizations.
Addressing the workshop, Mr. Beyene Russom, Eritrea’s Ambassador to Kenya, noted that financial investment in solar geoengineering is diverting and depleting national resources. He urged African countries to direct their domestic financial resources towards developing early warning systems to mitigate the impact of natural disasters, instead of relying on unproven and dangerous technology.
Recognizing Africa’s abundant renewable energy resources, participants reached a consensus on the need for collective efforts focusing on equitable climate solutions, renewable energy, capacity building, and societal commitment. #Eritrea

#Eritrea: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Urges AU to Restore Eritrea’s Representation at its Headquarters
(Similar Letter Sent to UNECA)
*"... The decision of the Ethiopian Government - to expel Eritrea's Permanent Representative and the entire diplomatic staff assigned to participate in the AU - constitutes a grave violation of the Constitutive Act; and, the Headquarters Agreement between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the African Union...".
*"... In light of the foregoing, Eritrea urges the policy organs of the AU to take immediate corrective measures to restore Eritrea's rightful representation at the Headquarters of the Union to ensure its full participation in the activities of the Union as a sovereign and equal member, in strict adherence to the Constitutive Act; the Headquarters Agreement; and, the General Convention".
(The Letter also underlines that Ethiopia had in fact closed, without any formal announcement, its Embassy in Eritrea much earlier on 8 August 2026).
