South Sudan Delegation to 80th UN General Assembly arrives New York

The Vice President of South Sudan and chair of the service cluster, H.E. Josephine Lagu, arrived in New York on Friday, September 19, 2025, leading a high-level government delegation at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Upon arrival, the Vice President and her accompanying delegation were welcomed by South Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Cecilia Adeng, along with mission staff.

In addition to participating in the General Assembly, Vice President Lagu and the delegation are scheduled to hold a series of sideline meetings with representatives from other nations and international organizations. These discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral and multilateral partnerships and addressing key issues of national and global importance.

South Sudan Vice President Meets Norwegian Minister of international Development t at UNGA, Stresses Commitment to Peace Agreement

NEW YORK – South Sudan’s Vice President, Josephine Lagu, held a high-level meeting with Norway’s Minister of International Development, Anne Beathe Kristiansen Tvinnereim, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During the discussions, Vice President Lagu detailed the current political situation in South Sudan and reaffirmed the national unity government’s commitment to fully implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement. She emphasized this as a key priority for achieving lasting stability in the country.

The Vice President expressed gratitude for Norway’s continued support and urged the Nordic nation to maintain its partnership, particularly in providing critical humanitarian assistance to the South Sudanese people. She specifically highlighted the need to ensure safe and secure access for humanitarian workers delivering aid across the country.

Vice President Lagu called on the international community to stand with the people and government of South Sudan and to understand the substantive challenges the nation is currently navigating.Minister of Foreign Affairs and Inyernational Cooperration and the south Sudan permanent representative to the united Nation attended the meeting.

Vice President Josephine Yanga Meets with the UN Secretary General

The head of South Sudan delegation to United Nations General Assembly H.E Josephine Joseph Lagu Yanga, Vice President and Chair of the Service Cluster had a very important meeting with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, at the UN headquarters. The meeting discussed peace and stability in South Sudan and the region, among other important topics.

The Secretary-General reaffirmed the significance of establishing sustainable peace in South Sudan and Africa as a continent. H.E the Vice President outlined government priorities, she emphasized on efforts the national government is putting to ensure peace and stability prevail in the country. She urged the United Nations to continue supporting South Sudan to achieve everlasting peace.

Vice President Josephine Lagu Yanga Pays Tribute to the Late John Obita Pangec at Holy Rosary Parish
The Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chair of the Service Cluster, H.E. Josephine Lagu Yanga, joined mourners, family, and friends of the late John Obita Pangec at Holy Rosary Parish to honor his life and service to the nation.

In her condolence message, Vice President Lagu described the late Pangec as a dedicated and vibrant public servant who served faithfully in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security since February 2020, where he held the position of Director General.

“I extend heartfelt condolences to the widow, children, relatives, colleagues, and friends of the late John Obita Pangec,” she said.

The Vice President also extended condolences to the people of Magwi County, the broader community of Eastern Equatoria State, and the church communities where the late Pangec served as an elder.

Vice President Lagu emphasized that Pangec’s passing is a reminder of the transient nature of life and urged the mourners to draw strength from their faith.

“This world is not our permanent home, we are just passing through. May the good Lord strengthen the family and all those who are shattered and devastated by this loss. Let us surrender John into the hands of God Almighty, and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” she concluded.

The Vice President’s tribute reflected the government’s recognition of the late Pangec’s contributions to public service and his legacy of dedication to agriculture, food security, and community service.
