This tweet is simply a direct reflection of all that's brooding in Garoowe (Puntland) today. Somali leaders and their supporters must accept - and I know it's a cliché - the fact that no regional government (however legitimate or historic it might claim to be) can singlehandedly overcome conflict and secure peace and development for its people. No region has broad enough tax base to draw a sufficient budget for government spending. No region can singlehandedly attend to the serious climate and environmental issues affecting its people as well as to the increasingly regional (and global) energy politics. No region can singlehandedly address security (including cybersecurity), defense, immigration, crime and justice, education, healthcare, social welfare, technology, and the urgent need to create jobs and livelihoods for millions of young people, their families and communities. No region can singlehandedly secure the equality and freedoms the Somali people demand and deserve. Therefore, regardless of clan or regional background, let's all come together and not only come together but bring together the structures, processes and skills necessary to build the institutional framework needed (through the FGS) for effective and inclusive government that can establish security, reduce conflict and promote socioeconomic development across the country.
